I don't really know what am I doing wrong with this game, but I never seem to have enough ammo or caps. I'm struggling in every quest to have enough ammo to kill all the beasts out there, but I can't seem to manage. There are some quests that I just had to abandon, because I ran out of bullets and I have all the frickin weapons from the entire game: laser gun, laser rifle, huting rifles, all sort of pistols, but no ammo for them. The morons I kill either have very few ammo on them or they don't have at all. Also, all the ammo boxes around each level are scarce or again, missing the bullets.

What am I doing wrong, or is it just the game like this? I'm now in the middle of a tunnel, where I have to take some people outside and again, as usual, I ran out of bullets and energy cells and whatever. I'm struggling to lure the enemies somehow to blast their brains out with a sledge hammer. But that isn't fun at all.
And of course that with no ammo, I also never had enough caps, to repair equipment, or buy weapons, bullets or the stupid stimpacks. This game annoyed me as hell until now. Anyone has any advices?

It's true that there are times when you have to conserve your ammo (the beginning of the game) but there's enough laying around b/t the ammo cans and the weapons you take off your dead enemies...more than enough, actually.

As for caps; you ARE taking weapons and junk and selling them, right? With the fast-travel method it's no problem to jet back and forth b/t locations with lots of dead enemies and your "base" (Twinpenny Towers or Megaton) and sell stuff for caps.

Also, you don't have to shoot every bad guy you see. Obviously if they see you they will chase you. But in that tunnel you can sneak right past a lot of the guys in the power armor...

Hmm, I remember being hard up at certain points but certainly not all the time. You might try a mod that gives merchants more caps, so you can sell them more stuff. As for ammo, I'm not sure. I use all kinds of mods, one of which seeds certain ammo types all through the game. If I think of something else I will post it.

For some reason I don't have the right to wear that armor. I'm missing a training or something.

Oh and I did sell stuff I found all over the places, but it's very annoying going back and forth to sell stuff, that most of the time doesn't worth that much. I mean I have my inventory full of all sort of things, but when I sell them, I just receive a couple of caps that aren't enough for "my needs". Maybe I should have invested more experience points in the barter skill?

Here is a tip: Build the Rock-It launcher (or whatever it is called). Almost every piece of junk can be used as ammo for that thing. Use that for a while and you will build up you ammo supplies for your other weapons. It is fairly powerful too.

Ok, but how do I build that?

You need to buy the schematics, so more money is needed unfortunately. Once you have them you can read it to see what parts you need. Then you can go to a workbench and assemble one. Not a great weapon, but ammo is literally everywhere.

How far are you into the game? I recall ammo being scarce for the first ten hours or so, but then it opened up a fair bit. There are also a couple perks which let you find more ammo and caps - the ammo one, in particular, seems to work very well.

I had the same issue, and I think I quit playing around the spot the OP is at. I ran out of ammo in that spot too and had to replay it several times so I wouldn't miss a single shot, which was difficult because my guy has absolutely horrible aim. I've never shot a gun in my life and I think I could shoot better than him.

I know exactly what the OP means, but I just quit the game. I never did like it to begin with.

I played it on the xbox, gathering and selling is about the best way to make money in the beginning. I didn't take either of the perks for more caps or ammo and I was drowning in both before too long.

Increase your repair skill and use it on your weapons and armor. The better condition of the weapon the more dmg it does. Also you can repair weapons/armor to sell at a better price. I used a well repaired hunting rifle with VATS sneak attack to the head and it was a one shot kill for quite awhile.

Also the merchants only have a certain amount of caps which is shown in the trade window. If the items you are selling are worth more than he/she has than either trade for ammo/stims or keep it and go to a different one.

I have no idea where the game is at. I'm now following the main quest and I have to escort the scientists from the memorial something, through these tunnels filled with mutants and soldiers.

The last level up I had, I puted the ammo perk ( too late I guess ). But where I am now, I still have a hard time finding bullets.

My buddy who played through the game on 360 told me about this issue as well, told me to get the more ammo/caps perks as soon as they became available. I literally had more ammo for the last 2/3 of the game then I could possibly ever use. Then again I am a total pack rat and I spent a lot of time traveling back and forth salvaging/selling everthing that wasn't nailed down.

I've found that putting lots of points into the "small guns" skill really pays off. Your aim is much, much better and the amount of damage great increases as well. In fact, I play the majority of the game with the Hunting Rifle and later, Ol'Painless (about 10 points more damage than the basic hunting rifle).

By far, the most difficult enemies are those big, fast things with the big claws! I hate those damn things!!! Fast and difficult to put down.

If you hate Deathclaws, stay away from Old Olney, even despite the cool loot. I hear plasma does good damage to those.

What helps immensely with the Deathclaws is the Dart Gun. It slows them down a whole lot so you can take headshots from far away. :D

If you get attacked by two Deathclaws, you're dead...doesn't matter what armor you have.

My strat:
Hit the ground beneath them with rockets... and if you survive.... patch your ass up afterwards. :)

Ok, I'm out of the tunnel now. I'll be using your advices and hopefully, bullets will fill up my inventory.:)

Or you could just run away from them. Like I did.

Since the OP already knows about the rock-it launcher, I will say that he should use books and clipboards as much as possible. They frequently chop off limbs and heads, especially in VATS.

Once you have lots of junk for ammo, everything else can be sold.

The walking crab like things then? Yea, in early game, I'd just run away. Now, I just own them with headshots. Usually 2 vats against the head with an assault rifle (3 shots each) and they go down.

hmm, I should start playing again. I stopped when I accidentally repaired my lincoln repeater rifle into another gun and didn't notice. Have to go back like 6 saves and got too angry to play anymore when I noticed.
