Gametap just added Fallout 2 so now you can play both 1 and 2 on gametap.
I had concerns that after the sale of the company that they would start going downhill , but it looks like it is only getting better.
Lots of good titles are being added or coming soon.
Added this month:
Fallout 2
Kane & Lynch
Prince of Persia: Two Thrones

Under coming soon they have:
Fallout Tactics
Supreme Commander: forged alliance

You got a lot of good older games with Vista support on Good Old Games (www.gog.com) :) They're dirt cheap and you get crazy amount of support there, addons, mods, music from games, wallpapers, forums for each of the sold games etc. Just have a look :) You won't be disappointed! :D

The thing is people blame gametap for the lack of 64 bit support when it isn't them it is Exent. Gametap uses their system. To tell gametap that they need to switch their entire delivery system and make sure it works for all the games just to support 64 bit is a much. We aren't talking about a small number of games here, but hundreds.

All they can do is pressure Exent to support 64 bit.

Is Gametap invasive, good or bad? Was going to download Fallout for free, but then saw that you need to install their software.

I picked up Fallout 1 and 2 in 2005 for 2 dollars at AAFES. A steal. :)

They've stopped carrying it though.

Apparently it activates your webcam and uploads nude pics of you to everyone in your contact list.

At least that's what I told the judge.

I don't think it is invasive at all.
It doesn't even put itself in the start menu.
Only runs when you are using the games.

The software they use allows you to start playing the game with just a small part of it downloaded then it continues to download in the background. Or you can opt to download the whole thing first, usually what I do. Then you run their software and the games will be listed in your library and you play them from there. There is no installing of the actual game to be done.

I installed it to get Fallout for Free! Not to invasive. Create an ID, just email and name, then install their software. Looks like you can also play Thief deadly shadows for free to. Might give that a try later on when I finish Fallout 1.

Fallout is very fun, even though it's so old. I'm actually liking it *better* than Crysis warhead, go figure.

of course its more fun, it was created by people who were passionate about delivering the best game not the best graphics.

Same goes for anything else Black Isle, what i consider the "golden era" of computer gaming.

Anyways I use gametap along with STEAM and no invasive stuff here.

It's their encryption that is used with all their PC games. It refuses to run in 64bit, who knows whether it actually works since 64bit Vista has very good 32bit compatibility. However, they've known about this for a VERY long time and have had plenty of time to fix it. They've gone to great lengths to shut everyone up who knows what the problem is for whatever reason. I say this as a paying customer and it's truely disappointing. I doubt they'd have to fix every game, they just need to fix their encryption, that's it.

It is not their encryption.
Gametap uses Exent to do the encryption and delivery of content.
Some of the games they have do work in 64 bit.
Things that run on emulators like the older arcade games do work.
Anything that makes use of streaming does not work though.
Some have asked that they change to a all download format and that would solve the problem temporarily , but the company has just changed hands so that might be something that will be done , will have to wait and see.
I did email Exent asking about 64bit support and the response was that they do have it in testing and that it should be out in Q1 2009.

Gametap was bought out by a European gaming company so maybe they will make some effort to push 64bit support forward.

But for reference, XP 64 was out before Gametap ever existed and Extent has had many years to get this working. It's a complete refusal to work on it that put them in this situation. I don't feel sorry for them at all. This is similar to the stunts Creative Labs pulls whenever you need a new driver from them. Drag their fucking feet until you give up.

I guess it's a matter of opinion. I personally really liked Warhead, but I can't really get into Fallout (installed the first one via Gametap). It seems to me that comparing Fallout to Warhead is sort of like comparing chess to poker - both games have their merits in their own right, but may not appeal to the same people.
