Some interesting rumors flying around at TPU about an AMD special projects division R10 GPU code named Zeus being prepared which may spell ruin for the new 780Ti to be released Nov 13.

In the NVidia 780ti news article btarunr released this morning, he made a comment saying NVidia was falling into AMD's R10 Zeus trap. I replied saying I had googled it and found nothing, then 2 minutes later our posts were deleted.
"Whatever R10 Zeus ends up being, after speaking to my source it seems to be real, and I believe is intended to counter GTX780Ti... "

I'll dwell on it a little longer until either Bta or W1zz comes up with a reason
wink.gif
neither have replied to me, and the post was deleted for a reason.
Semper freakin Fi !!:p:p:p

Per forum guidelines, your post should have a link to the article in question, and a reference to the source in the title (e.g. "[TPU] Radeon R10...") -- if there is an article to link to.

Well I heard Nv has THOR coming out to beat Zeus. I emailed Anand and Ryan to confirm, but they didn't respond. Silence is confirmation!

Honestly with the AMD marketing stuff going on, threads like this, with no facts or source, are highly suspucious.

In before the usual suspects troll, thread crap, and derail.

Oh, it already started.

Anyway, source? If true, I have a 290x for sale :sneaky:

I think TMZ has threads with more credibility.

It's OK when Cloudfire does it though, right?

Also, nice ninja edit.

According to Greek tech mythology the war will last ten years between Zeus and the Titans (tri-sli?) but Zeus will prevail in the end. I do hope we're going to see even more exciting GPU 'warfare' in the next few months as the gods of 3D do battle for my gold. This rumour originated on techpowerup but the original post was swiftly deleted as were enquiries about Zeus.

RCoon here, original poster of the TPU R10 thread.
Let me clear a few things up.
The news editor for TPU mentioned that Nvidia was falling into AMD's R10 "Zeus" trap (Which another source from OCUK claims that "Zeus" is in fact AMD's counter to the 780ti). I went to research this "Zeus" card, and found nothing. I've tried to contact both W1zzard and btarunr for information, but both posts have been deleted from records. So far nothing has been denied, but the source claiming that it's a counter to the 780ti is credible, but may require a few pinches of salt.
From experience TPU has never posted anything without evidence to back up claims, or clearly stating that their information is explicitly based on rumor. The reason for this R10 Zues trap comment being deleted is unknown.

Here is the thread discussing:

Here is the article the comments were deleted from, ask W1zzard or moderators if they will release the comments to you, I doubt they will, but plenty of us saw the post and can attest to it's existence.

One does not simply crap that which has no source :ninja:

Thanks rcoon!

Everything deleted, but nothing denied. Sounds plausible...
They dont have enough silicon for R9, but R10 is on the way... heh

Just to add a bit of my own salt into this mix, if indeed the 780 Ti is just an overclocked titan then the Zeus could well be an overclocked 290x GHz edition cause this piece of news suggests that AMD is in a position to lower the TDP of their high end R9 2xx series without sacrificing much in terms of performance. So unless the 780Ti is a full GK110(doubtful I'd say) a power efficient GHz edition of 290x is certainly plausible cause I don't see AMD making a separate chip just to counter a hypothetical 780Ti, that at the time of 290x development.

If it was true the R10 could be a Dual-GPU card? But I would think that would be a disaster with Hawaii.

Ironically, it required the help of the Titans for the Olympians to win the Titanomachy.

Its a rumour about a rumour so the bucket of salt I have here is suitably uses.

However if they do have an R10 in the works to take the crown that is really interesting twist to the competition. It would presumably be ridiculously expensive and hence low volume but I am sure a few people will definitely want it!

I've heard that the 780ti is a Titan without compute, but with a higher clock speed. The 290X needs its power and thermal issues solving before they overclock it, because it throttles in uber mode almost as far down as 650mhz. Overclocking wont help AMD. However if they bring TDP and heat down, the card will maintain its 1Ghz GPU clock for longer periods, yielding MUCH better benchmarking scores. Imagine if the 290X NEVER throttled down from 1GHz?

Impossible, TDP and thermals are too high for a dual GPU without watercooling. It would have to be similar to the Asus 7990 with AIO cooler.

I wonder if R10 would be CLC cooled just like FX-9590..... That would be very awesome. Could even be R9 290X cores x 2......

It won't throttle with 75% fan speed and a good flowing case. At least this what some users are reporting over on OCN.
