Today I stopped at a sushi restaurant in the middle of New York off highway 84. While inside, I noticed three hotspots: xfinitywifi, optimumwifi, and timewarnerwifi. I have xfinity service, so I connected to it and entered my username/password.... didn't work. Tried again. Didn't work. After a while, I began to question if the page was a phishing site and the hotspot a fake (the URL was legit, but it'd be pretty easy to spoof that with DNS spoofing).
In any event, the IP addresses (I tried twice) were 74.88.115.x and 74.88.112.x, which are valid Comcast IP addresses, but that's not to say someone didn't have a hotspot setup with that ssid on their Comcast connection, which would essentially accomplish the same thing... unless I'm missing something?
