I don't see how you can get a 4.0 all through CS and fail a programming class, with a 35 of all grades.

6 classes and a 20hr/week job, somethings gotta give :p

I'm taking 6 classes and work 25-30 hrs/week

This semester I will make 5 A's and a B. There are plenty of others like me.

What's your major and where do you go? Some programs are more rigorous then others, and some people are more capable then others.

Tell me, did you ever work full-time during school? In excess of 30 hrs/week? Ever not see your family for nearly a year?

Everyone responds differently. I got my ass kicked my stress and it was a cumulative effect. It wasn't this semester that did it--but everything built up and the added stress of a research project that I'm starting a business with.

Hooray, you're a champ and do better than me. Good work, here is a :cookie: ;)

I'll be starting a business, attending school full time and working 30 hours a week next semmester. I plan on maintaining at least a 3.0.

There is a great time management system called Getting Things Done, look into it.

Don't worry. It's silly when people try to equate the extraordinary with the norm.

Also, there are so many variables to take into account it's downright silly.

Same here.

Except no form was required.

I never did it. But my wife did. She retook a freshman class as a senior. :D

I'm taking 20 hours this Spring. I look forward to the challenge. I dont work so there's no excuse to do bad. All through high school I pissed everything off, made D's and F's and hardly ever woke up for school. I'm 23 now and in my 2nd year of college and I finally realize how important education is. I dont know how I would take it if I failed a class, but 5 years ago I wouldn't have cared. These days I kick myself if I don't atleast get a B. I feel if you goto school full time then you shouldn't be working much, atleast for most people.

I have been working full time and going to school (CS major) and this is my last year. It helps my job is in my field though. Class have always kicked my ass but I try my best. Somehow, holding a job and going to classes have made me appreciate things more and also it had made me realize than failing is not the end of the world. So far I haven't failed a class yet, but I totally flunked my AI midterm, I aced my projects so far (I turned in the last one on sunday) and I have my final tomorrow. I'll try my hardest to do well on it (I have benn studying all day) and whatever my grade is in the end, I'll know that was the best I could do.

I have a question though, it's a senior programming class, you have a job already. It'd seem to me that any kind of college level programming would seem fairly easy to do at this point in your education. For me, once I started working in my field I realized how miniscule the work I did in school was (fun to do though) compared to what one normally does in the real world. I'd imagine a senior programming class would be fun. In my case, my AI class is a fun class, the professor is excellent, the projects were awesome (last one was create player for the connect4 game) but the truth is that during midterms I was burned out and I didn't prepare well enough.

Good luck to you though, it's not easy working and going to school. Even though I also am doing it. I dont' have a 4.0 GPA (it's barely 3.4 at this point) but I will have 3 years of experience in my field when I graduate.

Regards

ng

Well OP, be thankful for your 4.0 streak so far.
It's kinda hard to pull off - you constantly have to stand on tiptoe, esp. in a more rigorous engineering program. Personal experience speaking :D

This is an easy problem to fix. you get the class withdrawn, changed to "W" on your transcripts. (If your school has this policy). Initially, your transcript will forever carry the "W" next to the grade that you would have received. There is a one-shot solution to end your misery and save your ass--The wonderful letter from the counseling department. It sounds like you haven't exhausted the resource so here is your chance.

Make an appointment with student health to see a counselor. COnvince the counselor that you are stressed out in life, too much to deal with, you feel that you are sinking into depression, the weight of your performance in this class is too much to bare. If you must, (and it doesn't trouble you), make up some BS about your parents getting divorced (If they are divorced, so much the better). If the counselor plays game, then they will right you a letter, send it to R&R, and the grade is forever whiped form your transcript, and will never affect your GPA. Worked for me my first year in school and I never looked back.

Of course, it could be a problem when you start to believe the BS you create for this counseling session....

Actually the depression is somewhat real. Throughout college I stressed so much between school, work, and starting a business along with some family problems.

This last 4-6 months I've been worn down like hell. I'm on some muscle relaxants for the stress and anxiety which helps me cope. I was also largely depressed from the stress of it.

But I don't want to play this card, really. It's kinda a chump move to make. (no offense to anyone). if I keep my GPA, I want it to be through legitimate means that apply to everyone and not just me (if that makes sense).

It is a chump move, to be sure. But, it's still a card you can play, and for some people in certain situations, it is the only card. I rationalize it by how one little College class can have an impact on your future (one single class can't, in my experience...and I bet you'll be OK), and if you had the chance to fix the problem, then why not use it? It could be worth it in the long run.

Doesn't sound like you need to take this route; but it also sounds like you have some valid reasons too. Hey, my Brother triple majored in undergrad, went to Duke Med School, and is now a physician at Stanford...who do you think wised me up on this policy?

As long as you don't make a habit of fixing problems in similar ways, it shouldn't be a problem. Just going on my experience...
