This is an easy problem to fix. you get the class withdrawn, changed to "W" on your transcripts. (If your school has this policy). Initially, your transcript will forever carry the "W" next to the grade that you would have received. There is a one-shot solution to end your misery and save your ass--The wonderful letter from the counseling department. It sounds like you haven't exhausted the resource so here is your chance.
Make an appointment with student health to see a counselor. COnvince the counselor that you are stressed out in life, too much to deal with, you feel that you are sinking into depression, the weight of your performance in this class is too much to bare. If you must, (and it doesn't trouble you), make up some BS about your parents getting divorced (If they are divorced, so much the better). If the counselor plays game, then they will right you a letter, send it to R&R, and the grade is forever whiped form your transcript, and will never affect your GPA. Worked for me my first year in school and I never looked back.
Of course, it could be a problem when you start to believe the BS you create for this counseling session....
