I made RobRich aware of it and my suggestion to ban him here is if no one else does something. My feelings on this is simple. What he did is violate someone elses property and if he gets away with it, then what joke is he going to play on someone else? I do not see why he should not be banned for life from this forum, as a mod in another forum that would be the first thing I would do and then I would not have a problem with him again. He showed nothing but arrogance to the members of this team. Showed off about the whole incident. He has no remorse so I think this forum should give him the invitation to leave forever, then maybe he will think twice before he pulls his prank somewhere else. I hate hackers that think they have a right to mess with others property.

I fully agree. SiliconJon has been a valued member at TechIMO, but his actions in this matter are beyond explanation or apology. He knew better, and he certainly should have known the administrative response. Accordingly, he has been banned at TechIMO. I am disappointed in SiliconJon, and I ask the FaD community to not judge our team at TechIMO based upon the actions of a single member. On behalf of the TechIMO community, I apologize to both Dringdahl and the AnandTech community.

I don't believe there was ever any blame of TechIMO over this. Like any community, the actions of a single moron do not represent the whole.

We have been fortunate with very few malicious attacks on the Find-a-Drug project. Rather than not use your e-mail address we recommend added a suffix to your email address separated from the email address by a space. This should make it extremely difficult for a hijacker.

OK, anyone wanting to join my crunching team use:

emjem damnit@fckoff.edu.

Ahhhhhh, feels good to be safe from hacker/cracker punks. And it's not inconvenient at all ;)

They really need a password for each account!

Where does one go to changes info/teams? I can't seem to find that on their website.

You do it in the client... that's how SJ changed it so easily... there is no password... if I know the email you used to set up your nodes, I could create a new node on one of my machines, set it up with a different team id, and that would move all your points over to the new team... good system, hunh?

I am relatively new to FaD, but I too noticed the same problem when first installing the client software. I suppose the developers expect project members to be honest, which is true for the vast majority of participants. However, this situation caused by SiliconJon provides a clear and distinct reason for the implementation of a FaD password or other unique identifying variable.

This has been brought up before. Please post your concerns on the FaD forum. Maybe we can get them to change! All you have to do is look at the history of DC. There's always going to be cheaters and theives, SETI had a lot of problems. :(

Listen he needed a wake up call, if he had done that to me I would have pressed charges. What he did is a crime and better for him to wake up to that now.

Robert,
we all know that TechIMO did not take part in this. We all know that that the TechIMO community does not want this kind of cr..p.
At least I think highly of a community which takes responsibility and action if something wrong is done or happens. That is a good sign of a mature team.
You deserve respect and I wish you all the best.

RobRich,

I do agree that you have taken the high ground in this situation although I am not altogether certain that all such situations are dealt with so objectively.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

I am certain that I speak for the Anandtech FaD effort in commending you for your prompt and appropriate actions.

Thanks again.

I will say it yet again, I'm sorry. So don't say I'm not remorseful for how my stupid idea went horribly worse. My mistake resulted in my termination as fiercely as a spammer from the only board I considered an online family for over two years know. So I know that I'm looked as completely worthless since those actions have been greatly applauded.

No other accounts other than my own and DRingdahl's have been effected by any actions of my own or anyone I know of.

And in hopes to show you that this wasn't a malicious attack, here are the posts I made as soon as I noticed DRingdahls account switched teams by my actions:

IMG, I love you guys at Anand, you know that right!

He will be returning to Anand as soon as he notices he left!

I meant no harm!

I AM NOT RATIONALIZING MY MISTAKES WITH THESE QUOTES, since many of you will want to make that claim. I also did not attempt to cover up my actions by getting Dwight to join TIMO...it was just another dumb idea stacked upon many in this whole ordeal; I was going to tell him what I did but then weaseled out and asked him to join TIMO. It wasn't until the 9th, 3 days after he switched, I told him I "pranked" his account, but left it at that giving no further details. But I can see how it certainly appears a cover up looking back. And though it was not my intention, I see I came across as a complete and total Ahole after that.

Though I thought I apologized at TIMO, I see the way I worded it the apology was not specific as to why and completely lacking merit. So to all those at TIMO I am sorry for the mess I made. And yes, I am also sorry to all you here at Anand still. I did not mean the harm I caused.

I am not apologizing to get back on TIMO or even for forgiveness of any sort. It's just what I believe should be done. I want nothing in return. You may continue your blatant observations & insults.

The good thing you did was to revitalize me and to see who my friends are. In no way do I think that your actions should have caused such a ruckus, unless they were not acted upon by yourself (which I think you did very well). We ALL make mistakes in life, you seem like a good person, just a little zealous, (not that I havn't ever been ;) ).

I hope your team will take you back, I in no means, ment to cause this kind of problem for you, nor did you, I'm quite sure.

Every action makes a reaction. I think your fallout may have been severe based on your actions after the problem arose, I hope your team looks at the entire situation.

Thanks for Crunching for the cause...

Dwight
