Thats is not cool... In fact that is just not right.

I had some crunchers pointing to your team, but snagging points from one team to another without telling the person is flat out wrong...

Soooooo......were you planning to go to their team?

It's only going to be a matter of time before other SJ like jerks demolish the FaD team concept. I sent a note to FaD asking that they improve their controls. Maybe others should do the same to make sure they get the message.

No I was contacted after the hijack, unbeknown to me, and I was going to provide a computer or 2 to their effort. I too had some people I knew over there.

And yes I think he acted alone, and tried to cover up by emailing me several times after he had started his hijack. Probably was not a malicous act, but definatly a dumb one.

"just wanted to say hi to everyone. Yes I have moved from my old team to yours. Hopfully a bit less political. I have request at FAD to have them combine my #'s over to the one account. Dont know how long that will take but we'll see I guess.

Thanks
Dwight"

Dringdahl, did you post that in this thread at timo.........or did someone else?

Edit: Please IGNORE this post and list. Corrected somewhere below.
======================================================
In a quick check of departing members I found something weird. On 7/18/05 FaD, or someone, did a mass removal of members from TA. We scratched it off as FaD screwing up while trying to remove 0 point members. And a cursory check would show that the members were returned the next day. However about half way down the alphabetical list we start with letter A again. None of those 28 members are currently on TeAm Anand, while all but 2 are still shown in FaD stats.

It doesn't look as though these members are part of any team, but I may not be reading it right.

Total points lost to TA = 545,678.

I don't have time right now for additional research but I will try to get back on it later.

Hope you get things straightened out with your FaD account.

TAandy, sorry to hear how things are going with you :(
Let us know if there's anything you need.

THis SiliconJon character should have his account closed or something by the FaD admins

I think the mods should ban him from Anandtech permanently, at the very least. He still as of the last time I checked thinks we are at fault for not getting his joke.

As I see it he is a member of Timo therefore he is Timo's problem. Question is what is Timo going to do about the problem ?

Exactly, Although I think Dringdahl should have a say as well, since it was his account that got hijacked.

Anymore news as to the accounts listed above beiing jerked with?

I made RobRich aware of it and my suggestion to ban him here is if no one else does something. My feelings on this is simple. What he did is violate someone elses property and if he gets away with it, then what joke is he going to play on someone else? I do not see why he should not be banned for life from this forum, as a mod in another forum that would be the first thing I would do and then I would not have a problem with him again. He showed nothing but arrogance to the members of this team. Showed off about the whole incident. He has no remorse so I think this forum should give him the invitation to leave forever, then maybe he will think twice before he pulls his prank somewhere else. I hate hackers that think they have a right to mess with others property.

That was, ahem, me

There's no joke in taking someone else's property. It's not the least bit funny. How would you like to have your PC hacked? Really funny, huh? What you need is an ass kicking. :|

Nice detective work Dad. Make me wonder if there isn't more than one "hacker" out there that finds it amusing to STEAL others property. :|

Oops, all of these members in my list were returned. There are 2 batches of alpha listings and I didn't see that a new one started with a after z, lol.

OK, I went thru all of Geoff's 'members lost' left on the AT servers and found only a couple of unusual events:

There is kzint1, 4,581,481 points, who left TA ~3/28. I did find him with hardcoreware with no activity for the week. So how do we know that he wasn't inactive for a long time and hijacked?

Then there is ZackaryB with 7,675,394 points. He left techIMO for TA, then left TA to go with FreeDC, and from there he apparently went back to techIMO where FaD logs him today. He does some posting on techIMO so I GUESS that means something, lol.

End of audit !!

kzint1 joined and left after a few days... he's done that before... he gets pissed off with his team, leaves and returns.

ZacharyB came to TA in good faith, then set up/modified an existing node that caused him to revert to his old team... a couple of us jumped on him for team-hopping without giving him a chance to explain, but he decided to not return to TA because of how he was treated here...

And this from FaD Support:

We did originally use password protection but during testing members found this inconvenient and the support burden excessve (especially since some members don't keep the email address current). At that time we had not realised the consequences of a hijacker moving teams or countries.

We have been fortunate with very few malicious attacks on the Find-a-Drug project. Rather than not use your e-mail address we recommend added a suffix to your email address separated from the email address by a space. This should make it extremely difficult for a hijacker.

OK, anyone wanting to join my crunching team use:

emjem damnit@fckoff.edu.

Ahhhhhh, feels good to be safe from hacker/cracker punks. And it's not inconvenient at all ;)
