Well, I guess if Bowser ever decides to attack Europe like he's planned to for so long, they know who to call.

I read that the U.S. spends more on it's military than any other nation in the U.N. - and it's only 4% of our GDP. :D

That sucks. They should let the people spend their own money on what they want to buy.

True, and their healthcare system is still lightyears behind ours. Why do you think they come to the U.S. when they have a real emergency, and when they have the $.

It's all about the $, baby.

True. And how many millions of people in the United States don't have basic healthcare needs?

Why don't they? Even the crappiest jobs have some basic form of health insurance. I make $7.50/hr and they take about $30/mo from my check. For that, I get $10 check ups, 90% discounts on medicine and other stuff. Even if someone has a much worse work insurance plan, it's still a good deal. You might have to do without something else, but many more people could have insurance if they really wanted it.

Yeah, I tend to agree with Chaotic. "Millions" don't have health insurance? Do you have any statistics to back that up?

census

<< The data show that the number of American children without health coverage rose from 8.2 million to 10.6 million from 1987 to 1996, overall a period of relative prosperity. >>

That's just children.

census

<< the number of uninsured rose by 1.4 million, to 41.2 million [between 2000 and 2001], the Commerce Department's Census Bureau reported today >>

Surprised? If you didn't know, you're being fooled. Our economy doesn't work as well as many people would have you believe.

Some more "fun facts":

1.21 BILLION people live on less than $1.08 per day

Almost 33 MILLION in the United States Alone live under the census' official "poverty line"

It is not the governments job to take care of you.

Perhaps, perhaps not, but when an overwhelming percentage of the population does not have adequate medical care, does not have enough money to live on and is living in poverty, something is not right. Something needs to change. And don't give me "it's their own fault"

Yes, but the question is *why* don't more people have health insurance at work. I know that some jobs don't offer it, but if your's does, there is no reason not to get it.

Whose fault is it then? Are you saying that they are not responsible for their own actions?

Apparently he wants people 'who can afford it' to pay for the people who can't...thus evening the playing field and creating equality between career bums and hard-working people. :D
