has no one ever heard of the Downie Ball?

Did you not read the "all other devices do not" part? seriously, they tested it in one of their classes, and it does not release the fabric softener at the correct interval.

BYU - Provo has the largest Home Economics program in the nation (last I heard there were 80 students)...technically my wife was home economics education (home ec. with a teaching certificate). Now it's called Home & family consumer science. I was Poly Sci, which is about as useful, in my under grad. I must admit, I was pretty jealous when I would be going to my Ancient political philosophy class and she would be going to her "pots & pans" class...I would be studying Socrates or some other dead dude, and she'd be testing what pan makes the best cookies. Very jealous!

I use dryer sheets to do one thing: prevent static. It's annoying as hell pulling out clothes and constantly getting shocked because the clothes are loaded with static. Dryer sheets prevent this.

Ditch the dryer, problem solved.

I don't use either. I have never found cloth hard enough to require softening.

Ditch the dryer, problem solved.

I do that during the summer, but I don't particularly care for the stiffness of the clothes while they dry in the air. So I usually throw them in the dryer for 5 minutes or so to get rid of that stiffness.

Ditch the dryer, problem solved.

Did that when we couldn't afford a dryer (no 220 in our law school apt)...not a good idea if you live in a damp place, like here in Hawaii. Clothes take forever to dry and end up with a stink to them (like they had gone rancid). Then if they got direct sunlight, the sun would hasten the deterioration of the fabric (especially cotton)...

Usually both. FS added at last rinse, dry with sheets (really helps with static cling in the winter).

Dryer and fabric softener sheets leave quite a bit of toxic remnants on your clothes. I still use them, but I probably shouldn't.

  • Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer.
  • Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant.
  • Ethanol: On the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders.
  • Limonene: Suspected Gastrointestinal or Liver Toxicant, Immunotoxicant, Kidney Toxicant, Neurotoxicant, Respiratory Toxicant, and Skin or Sense Organ Toxicant.
  • A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage.
  • Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list.
  • Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders.
  • Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic.
  • Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders.
  • Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled.

My Firefox thinks New Zealand is a misspelling.

I'm serious.
Ohhhh now I understand why he's so anti firefox. It thinks his entire country is a mistake. It would be hilarious if firefox tried to correct it to Australia.

Dryer sheets - static is my biggest pet peeve... I want to stab it hard.

This. Without dryer sheets all my shit clings and goes apeshit static. I've seen my clothes without the lovely dryer sheets used... it ain't pretty. It's fucking horrible. Sweatshirts become masters of hell, and I get real angry... REAL ANGRY!:twisted::twisted::twisted: :thumbsdown:

My wife uses softner (front load washer) AND 2 dryer sheets with each wash.

Me, very little softner in washer and 1 dryer sheet. Even that is overkill but my wife wants more.

Wife uses Downy liquid. It goes in the dispenser thing so it comes out during the spin cycle. Don't think she uses dryer sheets.

We've got both. Always use dryer sheets, mainly to prevent static.
I don't bother with the fabric softener for clothes, but I use it with towels. I don't want my clothes heavily scented, but I do like a nice smelling towel when I get out of the shower.
