Mechanical, electronic or software failure is usually the result of poor quality control. Which could lead back to poor workmanship and which could lead back to poor design and management... etc.

Having said that this isn't always the case. It can also be Human error like one partial hilo crash on a Canadian ship a few months back. Some greese monkey turned a screw too far when tuning the engine which resulted in failure during take off.

or in the rare case that doesnt work and you have to destroy the canopy anyway fire/rescue woulda just used the canopy jettison emergency switch... it doesnt eject the pilot just ejects the canopy away from the aircraft.

we had it happen a few times with hornets pilots would accidently pull the wrong lever lol..

I'm not sure if the F-22 has a 'vent' feature that will blow the glass and not eject the seat.
The energetics system would cause extensive spauling and associated pyrotechnic damage to the HUD and other electro optical systems.

Seat ejection would compromise and compound the damage even more.

The F-22 canopy track sets down and slides to a lock, so I doubt that the system could release, especially after the
computer system shut it down for corrupt commands.

F-22, Fun

I know, because everyone is exposed to military aircraft on a regular basis.

Seriously, why would 99% of us ever be exposed to military aircraft?

Question: Why do I not see the bright yellow ejection cables/handles above the pilots seat. Are those type of ejection cables/handles old and out dated? Where are the ejection handles/buttons/levers?

I'm surprised they let them late pics of the inside of the jet. Not that we can see much, but still, this is one of the most advanced planes ever produced by the US.

EDIT: Also, why did the Engineers let the firefighters drag the glass over the body and damage the LO? You gotta wonder who's pocket the money to fix this is coming from. Oh wait, it comes from our collective pockets, joy.

Lockheed Martin will probably pay for it, I believe the planes are still under warranty.

Ok Maverick, what's the recommended dosage for exposure to military aircraft? Do the people walking around in hangars have badges so their exposure can be monitored. ;)

Yeah, I was thinking why not eject to save the $182K?

Yeah, the pilot w/b bruised up a bit, but still.

Yeah I'm sure an ejection seat AND the canopy that would fly off costs less than a canopy alone..

those look like crts

Looks like LCDs to me.

There are six liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in the cockpit

Well, fine.

Its still pretty ugly tho
How much more nice and pretty should they make it? It has what it needs and nothing more. Nice and clean, with those 4 large (2 small) LCD MFD's...I've always thought it looked damn sexy myself.

What fighter has something that looks better?

Why would he want to eject? Ejection is violent, and used only as a last resort. I would rather sit there for several hours and have to piss in my pants than eject. The overall ejection survival rate is still only about 91%. There are several things that can happen, including not being separated from the seat.
The newer model ACES II in the F-22 should cause less injuries since it has arm and leg restraints (as does B-1), unlike the F-15/16 and A-10 seats.

BTW, ever seen this line on some canopies? Harrier
It's an explosive cord (Miniature Detonation Cord) that shatters the canopy before pilot ejection.

Also some seats fire downward like the F-104, B-52 (for the navigators) and some old planes of the past. Scary.
