I didn't bother counting how many downshifts he made in one lap... :Q

EDIT: Oh and yes thats a Honda engine paired with everyone beloved McLaren company... 😛 Legendary team... with Senna onboard. 🙁

that's not senna's lap, that's Irvines?

You got videos of Senna?

I'd love to see old F1 races with Senna, or even older with Gille Villenvue. Sadly I got into F1 to late in the game (yr2000)

Yeah, I started watching it the year Jaques Villeneuve entered F1, 1996. Two years after Senna was killed.

They've been showing old F1 races from 1993 and 1994 last year and this year on Speed. The program is called F1 Decade. I've been watching them, amazing stuff. There were no pit lane speed limits early in the '94 season and none prior to that either. I have the 1994 San Marino GP on Tivo. I'm sure you recognize that date and that race. One of the darkest weekends in F1 racing.
Yeah that was the fateful Senna one. I have that F1 Decade episode on my computer. I have yet to watch it though.

that looked SOOO much like a video game...I almost expected to hear "You placed first!" at the end of the clip.

Wow.

I'm not going to an F1 race unless it goes back to Long Beach... 😛

Tickets for the US GP goes for around $85-150... the stands right by the first corner is around $105 for raceday... that would be the coolest place as they brake like hell and you can hear them downshift...

Practice/Qualifying admissions is around $25 and you can pretty much go wherever you want... 🙂

Totally worth the money if you're a racing fan...it's really hard to get a sense for how fast these cars accelerate, brake, and turn from watching on TV (zoom lenses ruin the effect), and how absolutely glorious these cars sound in real life. Another fun race to go to is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Crazy, man, crazy...

That's nothing compared with qualifying at Talladega. That's when talent is required. 🙂

Why they don't put one gear that would go around the whole track? (A former Nascar driver actually asked a guy on Speed after qualy for Sears Point, this week).

This year Fernando Alonso went to pass a slower car (who slowed on the racing line) and he got out there in the marbles and hit the wall in the tunnel. His car came out of the tunnel spinning and missing a wheel or two at around 160mph. He still had time to give Ralf Schumacher the "you're number one" salute though before his car came to a halt.

Also, race leader, Michael Schumacher had an incident in the tunnel under the safety car when he lock up his brakes and swerved into a surprised Juan Montoya who was trying to avoid hitting the 6 times world Champion. Ended up crashing himself out of the race. OOOOPS!!!

Now, both of those statements are the subject of many arguements on many forums.

1. Fernando pulled off the dumbest move of his career when he crashed in the tunnel. It had nothing to do with Ralf.

2. Shumacher didn't swerve, and Juan was following too close.

You're joking, right? Nevermind...I don't want to get into another argument about F1 vs NASCAR...there's really no point.

Not so sure about that. On the big ovals it's like 80% car, 20% driver. Basically they have it matted all the way around and hope for a draft. I'm more impressed with a good drive at Darlington.

Actually that's sort of what Montoya said when he came over and won Indy. He said, "it's just a bunch of left hand turns - it's easy" - and he proved it. The F1 guys are on another level.

Yeah for all of us F1 fans

Now who watched 6 hours of racing this past sunday on SPEED like I did?😱

F1 is awesome but MotoGP is even better

Did anyone see the FIA Rally of Turkey this weekend on Speed? Those guys are crazy...but it's fun to watch.

Haha, that's Cote d'Azur. I know it so well from Gran Turismo 3. They do a good job of modelling the real race tracks.

*edit* Holy damn, they need to turn some lights on in that tunnel!

cameras have an order of magnitude less light sensitivity than human eyes, and i would imagine a low resolution wireless tv camera would probably be worse. add in the compression and it is way darker than it is in real life.

i really need to go to that race

wrc rally cars are equally as cool but this year I havent been that interested because they oversaturated me with coverage.........I cant watch 3 or 4 nights of rally on the weekends. I remember when they used to have a 1 hours show of the entire rally. That was just perfect and now besides that they got rid of the english announcers for the american coverage and gave us ralph as an announcer:roll:

Im embarrassed to say its too much coverage😱

I was just kidding... Those guys are in a different league, while in the US people are still trying to find another Mario Andretti... Crossing the Atlantic (eastward) is harder than ever. Zanardi's failure, and Montoya's inneficiency (I'm thinking he's worth than Barrichelo!), both of whom considered Gods in the US, just highlighted the different levels.

Road racing in the US is intriguing because there's a lot going on, but at the same time nothing is raised to a level where Americans can compete in the world scenario. Take ALMS, for example: it's a great series, lots of money, but it's dominated by Europeans with more experience (many who didn't make at F1). At the same time, most road tracks in the US look like crap. One look and you know it's in the US (patched asphalt, unkept grass, wavy guard rails,...).

There's good racing every weekend on the US. But maybe not where Nascar goes. When a TV commentator goes "We was in the pits talking to...." my interest just vanishes. It's obvious they are trying to reach a certain audience.
The press pushes a series where people go in circles with old-fashioned cars, supported by a well orchestrated hype that tells people that's the best thing there is. It maybe great business for those involved (including a "press" that's is just another business). These types of spec series are fine for beginners and cheap club racing. Furthermore, the manufacturers are in the game, and don't really compete against each other. Toyota will just join the business (not the sport) when it also goes xASCAR.

I don't think they have the 4-day WRC coverage anymore. It was a choice, you could follow every night, or just watch the summary on Mondays. The pre-race program was pretty interesting, showing the place and what was new. The moment the program became familiar, they just "dubbed" it with the American narrator (and dumbed-down the text). I was always amazed at how fast they produced those shows, which aired just hours after the event.

Re: Barrichello--I think if he were to move to another team and become the primary (Williams anyone?), he would have a better shot at competitive racing. Driving behind Schumacher is probably holding him back a little. I'm not saying he's better than Schumacher, but I think he could probably win a race or two by being able to be more aggressive at the front, instead of having to tiptoe around Michael.

Re: Zanardi--I agree that he probably would not have done too well in F1, but unfortunately, we won't ever find out. I read an article in Automobile mag about what he's been doing since the accident...pretty inspiring stuff.

I went to the USGP this year, and let me tell you it was AWESOME. It is not to be missed! The decelleration of the cars is mind boggling.
