I really don't like the track that much. Its too tight, and makes it very difficult to pass people, but it shows really how fast these cars can go...

Insane.

You think that's crazy... check out Ayrton Senna's qualifying lap at Monaco back when cars had h-gates, foot operated clutches, and no traction control... just like a real car... 😀

I didn't bother counting how many downshifts he made in one lap... :Q

EDIT: Oh and yes thats a Honda engine paired with everyone beloved McLaren company... 😛 Legendary team... with Senna onboard. 🙁

Yep, that's for real. That was a pretty good lap for a car that was woefully uncompetetive and Irvine isn't racing F1 anymore though. He's been out of it for about 3-4 years now.

Still, the cars are even faster on that track now despite the FIAs efforts to slow the cars down.

I'm a huge F1 fan.

Well, consider now that without turbos and slicks and actual air underneath the cars... they're much faster now than ever.

Personally, I'd LOVE to go to Monaco to see the GrandPrix.

The '92 cars held lap records for awhile before most were broken in 2002... I think it will be interesting that F1 will be somewhat going back to their roots if the regulations changes do take place. 😀

Haha, that's Cote d'Azur. I know it so well from Gran Turismo 3. They do a good job of modelling the real race tracks.

*edit* Holy damn, they need to turn some lights on in that tunnel!

It's not that bad in there. Looks much darker on TV and especially on a little avi clip. Still, going from shining sunlight to that tunnel and emerging into bright sunlight at over 180mph must be a little disconcerting for the drivers. I guess you would get used to it though. Still, there seem to be quite a few events in that tunnel. This year Fernando Alonso went to pass a slower car (who slowed on the racing line) and he got out there in the marbles and hit the wall in the tunnel. His car came out of the tunnel spinning and missing a wheel or two at around 160mph. He still had time to give Ralf Schumacher the "you're number one" salute though before his car came to a halt.

Also, race leader, Michael Schumacher had an incident in the tunnel under the safety car when he lock up his brakes and swerved into a surprised Juan Montoya who was trying to avoid hitting the 6 times world Champion. Ended up crashing himself out of the race. OOOOPS!!!

that was hilarious!

while alonso was spinning backwards to the barrier he still had enough sense to give Ralfie the middle finger.

that's not senna's lap, that's Irvines?

You got videos of Senna?

I'd love to see old F1 races with Senna, or even older with Gille Villenvue. Sadly I got into F1 to late in the game (yr2000)

Yeah, I started watching it the year Jaques Villeneuve entered F1, 1996. Two years after Senna was killed.

They've been showing old F1 races from 1993 and 1994 last year and this year on Speed. The program is called F1 Decade. I've been watching them, amazing stuff. There were no pit lane speed limits early in the '94 season and none prior to that either. I have the 1994 San Marino GP on Tivo. I'm sure you recognize that date and that race. One of the darkest weekends in F1 racing.
