BTW, this is typical College Republican stuff. College Republicans are usually the biggest bunch of whining panzies on any campus, complaining that colleges are too PC to minorities, but any time they themselves are told something remotely non-PC they throw these kinds of fits. Probably the best birth control for a college student is joining college Republicans 😀

"spam"? I don't think you understand how the mailing happened. There are many of these emails that go out and you do realize that especially in IC there are many more lefty orgs so I don't see how 1 that happens to be from the right can be considered "spam".

Nonetheless, spam is any unsolicited e-mail from a company or organization, especially that sent in bulk. This message was spam, just as all the bulk e-mails sent by "lefty orgs" are spam. They are authorized spam, but they are still spam. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but people tend to automatically react to spam more negatively than personal messages from friends.

For the record, I don't think there is anything wrong with the purpose of this e-mail, to advertise a campus event. The fact that it was political in nature is irrelevant. Virtually all schools host a diverse range of events and activities -- political, religious, sexuality, etc. -- almost all of which are offensive to somebody. That's a good thing, the world is a diverse and offensive place. See my .sig. While I think this specific message was a little tasteless, I doubt it's the worst thing sent at the U of I. It happened to hit a nerve with this professor, but as I've said multiple times, she overreacted.

Maybe if they'd actually attempt to engage in civil dialogue they'd get some in return, but they haven't done that at all, nor are they likely to do so anytime RSN.
