Maybe you're not getting your way b/c of your attitude. Be nice to them, and they'll be nice to you. Just remember that when you return it to Best Buy.

return it to bb, this has been happening lately, people buy they drives and swap out the products. And considering bb employees are....um...well ya, they would have not noticed.

Yo fool, what's that supposed to mean? Keep in mind that the people who work the service desk do NOT work in the computer department, and you can't expect every person in the store to know everything about every department. Stuff like that happens all the time because of dishonest people who return stuff like that and take advantage of the fact that not every employee knows everything about every department. Give them a break, until you do every job every time and know everything about every product ... don't jump to such conclusions.

I am sorry, i made a generalization, all the bb employees in my area are retards, not every bb employee. And my comment is based off of numerious experiences with them. And yes, yes you can and should expect them to be able to read, to read the model # on the top of a hard drive and realize its different. I work in retail buddy, i give them no breaks.

U work in retail? So that means you must surely work every department every day every time and know everything right? Not every customer service person is trained to know what to look for on a hard drive, especially if it HAS NO LABEL... This was simply a mistake, and you can't blame the people at best buy for it. Last time i checked, if there is no model # written, it can't be read.... Blame the person who returned it illegally with the wrong drive inside, it is their fault, not the employees...

And in this case :

the drive was brand new and sealed, so I think it happened at WD

I do believe that's WD's fault... Meaning you still cannot blame BestBuy.. most stores I go to, do not open the product up prior to selling it to customers, but I'm sure they'll do that for you if you want, right? This is clearly an issue between him and WD, the product is sold by bestbuy, but it was packaged by WD. Maybe he can return it, maybe not, but WD is who will have to take the hit here.

i always open up my stuff as soon as i get out the door. even if i am not gonna install it right away, i just check it out, becuz i just blew some good money on it... at least i wanna smell it or something 😛 anyway... hope u were able to return it (tho IMHO it does not look good for u). btw, u're better off posting this rant in ATOT.

There has to be more to this story right?

How is it you can come to ATHD and still spend $300 on an HD at Best Buy?

So true...

Also I want to point out that WD has never jumped on the ATA133 bandwagon.

Got in before the lock...

I remember working at Computer City.. Oh joy them were the days...

Anyway. It was pretty funning... People were buying 20 gig drives at the time and putting in 500 meg drives in the box then sealing the box up with that plastic and heat gun...looked just like a factory wrapper.. Anyway... I bet there were some really pissed off customers who thought they bought a 20Gig and only got a defective 420Meg! 🙂

Good Luck! I think that best buy is required to OPEN all items even if they are sealed when they take returns just to avoid the above. But maybe one fell thought the cracks? Then again, maybe the employee wanted a new 200Giger? 🙂

Have Fun! And learn how to post ...

Thats what you get for buying it on April 1st..........

Now why exactly did you not return it to Best Buy first thing? You would think that contacting Western Digital would be the last choice.

Why isn't this garbage locked yet?

This is all either a late April fools joke from our forum 14 year olds or this guy picked up a drive someone returned and re-shrinkwrapped.

WD did not swap this drive out, the company doesn't even manufacture ata-133 products, they don't give out controllers with ANY models of their drives, infact, I don't think they MAKE controllers, and you shouldn't be shopping at BB unless its a price screwup because thats just about the only chance you have at purchasing something there and not getting ripped off.

Try Newegg or look up another reputable place on resellerratings next time you need storage that hasn't been tampered with.

are you SURE it's only a 40GB?? did you use WD's drivers. i had trouble before trying to get my rig to read a new WD180gb. even partition magic won't read it. after installing drivers from the included disk, got it to read correctly.

i'd be surprised it if was a mobo or even OS issue -- never heard of a 40gb limit. still, worth a check. maybe force it to read as 200gb in the bios -- cyl, heads, etc.

talk about bad luck. or bad karma?

WD never did go ATA133 but don't reviews say their drives beat maxtor nonetheless? plus aren't they quieter, and cooler. i got those maxtor 80gig 8mb cache in raid, and as impressively fast as they go, man they get HOT.

WD bundles Promise cards with their higher capacity drives to ensure that whoever buys the drive won't be stuck with a non-48-bit-LBA controller. The 180GB drive I got from Compusa had one with it. Also if you go the WD's website you will find drivers/BIOSes for the Ultra100 TX2.
