My SMP clients are getting assigned to server 0.0.0.0 and my logs say the following:

Waiting before retry.
[20:49:05] + Attempting to get work packet
[20:49:05] - Connecting to assignment server
[20:49:06] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[20:49:06] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[20:49:06] - Attempt #44 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

The update sites show unusual results, not just for me but others; But I don't see anyone talking about it.

Thanks theAnimal that did the trick.

I had a couple of versions running. 5.91 beta6 and 6.24 R3. I replaced them with the new Ver 6.29 drop-in client and all seems to be back to normal. For some reason I thought I read that the new clients would update automatically. Silly me..............

thanks again.

Thanks for the info all. I had the same problem but didn't realize there was a new version of the client. I was still running 6.24r3...

It looks like Kakaostats is broken which probably explains why I was seeing peculiar updates................... Nothing like having two problems going on at the same time to confuse matters...........

especially for me. :D

I did it. The new a3 core gets 800 ppd, and the old 624 got 3000 each client on my 920@3.7. Not even worth installing....

Yes, but once you've completed at least 10 with a passkey you get bonus points for early completion which should more than make up for the difference.

OK, I have lost track with all my boxes. But I know some use a passkey. Any way to tell which use it and which don't ? I currently have 11 SMP clients running on 6 boxes. I have only fixed 4 clients with the new stuff. So 7 are idle right now.

OK I'm missing something...what passkey? I just downloaded and dropped in the new client exe on all my boxes.

The passkey is entered when configuring the client, right after username & team. After completing 10 A3 WU (or bigadv) with a passkey you will start receiving a bonus for early completion (as long as you maintain 80% or better WU completion rate).

Get your passkey here: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py

I guess now that the late comers have cottoned on I won't be so high up the Top30? ;)

Mark
If you want an idea of output from the A3 core check out my stats, only running on 1 Q6600 @3.34 GHz (24/7).

Open client.cfg with an editor & it will show if there is a passkey. Just remember that in order to add one you need to use the client configuration, don't enter it manually.

I had similar problem the past couple of days on my smp clients. Thursday morning I checked my main rig and it had attempted 12 times to get more work. I shut it down and restarted it took 4 more tries before it got work. Same thing same morning on my second smp client. My last smp client had the same problem Friday morning. All are cranking away today.

I have 3 standard clients on work machines that had a hard time getting work the past 3 days also, so must be problems on their end.

Should I be using the passkey on my standard clients? I only entered it on the smp clients.

SemperFi; my understanding is that the passkey is for use with High Performance clients, like SMP2 with the "big" and/or "Advmethods" flags and subsequent awarding of bonus points specifically to you. And It also secures any points you earn from being pirated.

I too have seen a lot of work not available but they tell you that these bonus work units may be in short supply, so it is a natural occurance with the SMP2 clients.

Something like this:
[14:58:15] + Attempting to get work packet
[14:58:15] Passkey found
[14:58:15] - Connecting to assignment server
[14:58:15] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[14:58:15] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[14:58:15] - Attempt #43 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There has been a huge shortage with SMP WUs; less than a thousand each of A1 and A3 work units; only the -bigadv work units are in any kind of normal supply, and I believe that is solely because of their greater size.

Yea my rig ran out of A3 WUs earlier too, took about 8 attempts before it got 1.

Thanks to all of you, I now have 8 verified smp2 clients with passkeys entered. I have been running 6 of them for several days. I still see no bonuses. do they show up in the log files ????

My total PPD in fahmon is currently 52k, and thats my last 24 hour numbers. No bonuses so far that I can see.

The log file would tell you that the WU was completed before the deadline, but not how many bonus points you should receive. (If you use HFM.net instead of FAHMon, it will include bonus points in ppd calculation.)

Make sure you're using -advmethods.

Below is the top and part of the log file for one of the most recent units. I don't see where it says it beat the deadline, a little over 12 hours it took. Whats the deadline ?

Preferred deadline is 3 days for project 6025 and it gives up after 6 days. Since you're completing it is 12 hours, you should be getting bonus points.

http://calxalot.net/downloads/others/psummary.html

Base points for that project are 483 and k value is 2.10 max, so I believe you should get 1014.3 points for that particular WU.
