Hmmm,. I went to bed just before the discussion started. I also had a hard time to decide if Jim meant the dos-file naming rule or the speed of certain cars ... I like the Ninja. OTOH, I like the Official Castle Transportation too ...

Just to comment the topic --- on EOC I have produced - for the first time in my life - more than 12 000 points in one day. http://folding.extremeovercloc...ummary.php?s=&u=160496
Of course I have not - it is an artefact due to the probs with the stats ...

Go buy yourself a 2008 Ninja 250 and thank me later. :)

p.s... LizardMonsters dig Ninja's :D

ROFL. Are you crazy? These college kids in central Texas can barely drive when it's dry. They get just plain stupid when it rains. I'm afraid to drive my car out there, and you want me to get on a motorcycle? ;) (truth me told, I am afraid to get a bike, else I would have, because it would be wonderful for my short distance to work).

I wonder how many dual quad core machines I could build with that, and for how many months I could power them. :D

Would 70+ mpg help you get over that?

Considering it's a 13 minute walk, no, not really. The fear of getting hit from some dumb ass that can't figure out that they need to check their blind spot when they change lanes will keep me from ever getting a motorcycle. Even though it is a sexy bike. :)

I don't either. Years of using unix then linux is the source of my habit.

I still use underscores instead of spaces.;)

hic. :D

Never understood why volvos deserved "green car' status;)

Still see 240D's around spewing copious amounts of black soot into the atmosphere;)

I never had any self control with a throttle so I was lucky to survive my youth experience with snowmobiles and motorcycles;)

A Prius is perfect for me:p

I'll change the topic a little:

First cruncher - HP pavilion / XP 3200+

It now resides at my father-in-laws and crunches no more :(

Then you have to watch this video, it will bring a tear to your eye.

WoW

I hadn't even heard of this car. 250+ MPH..... AMAZING!

But speaking of speed...... FedEx says my brandy new soopoorDdooper heat sinks are to arrive today......

FINALLY, I get to do the playtime these PCs offer that convinced me to upgrade in the first place. (ThermalRight Ultima-90).

OK, so they're not 120's, but think about it.... An electronic hardware designer, on vacation with something to build and test (ad nauseum) and the ever present possibility of smoke... real, not imagined to keep it interesting.
My PPD is going to suffer a little (OK, maybe quite a bit) for the next day or two, but you can :D knowing I'm in hog heaven!

By the time I could afford this jet, I'll be retired and the car will be an antique.

An absolutely insane car the Vyeron!:Q:D ,16cyls & 4 turbos! lol

Sid
Prime95 is the 1st tool you need to use for overclocking & testing 1 component at a time.
I was going to give you the run down here but Anandtech covered the testing methology recently in this article :).
Though they neglected to mention you should do a 24hr test afterwards to make sure it is really stable  (1/2hr is a quick test) ,though running F@H afterwards is a better test still!.Oh & also don't bother running it for 1/2hr at a time between FSB steps ,that's overkill for a quick & dirty test ;) ,just run it for 5mins ,if it passes then reboot & raise whichever speed you were fiddling with. LMk how you get on.

Quad pumped = quad data rate(QDR) which 4x the actual MHz.
As in DDR is Doulbe Date Rate (x2).
FSB is real FSB on Intel rigs , so the def FSB on a Q6600 is 266MHz & its quad pumped so it is effectivley 1066MHz. 1600=400MHz QDR

If you find you overclock is mbrd limited then (using ATs method linked above) you'll probably need to raise the NB voltage &/or maybe the VTT voltage.

Oh I finally got my Ultima 90 today :D , probably install it tomorrow.

So how do you lock affinities with the F@H SMP client?

FMC
Come get me!:p;)

heheh

Btw no such thing as a quad core P3 ,do you mean quad CPU?

Yea I saw that , so is it worth running with 1 SMP client? or is it only worth doing with 2 SMP clients on quads?

I didn't see any difference on my X2 machines running a single SMP client. I went ahead and just took it off of them. It was the quads with two SMP clients (windowsXP) that I've had such a BIG increase in effeciency. (went from averaging ~15+ minutes per step to 12:20 per step)

Sorry. It is a dual processor P3, and each processor has HyperThreading.

lol no probs ,P3s don't have Hyperthreading either ,you mean P4s ;)
What clock speed is it btw?

Sid
Ah I see ,thanks:thumbsup:
Btw I just had a look at my SMP client ,& its doing about 10mins 10-20sec/step.
And you're getting 12m20s/step on each SMP client? ,that's alot faster than my rig!:Q
What clock speed is it again?

Hmmm. I know four cores show up in windows (not sure if they are logical or actual). If it isn't HT, then it might be a quad proc P3. I know they are 500MHz P3 Xeons though.

Yeah, that's on each client here's a paste from the FAHMon benchmarks
(My Quads are running at 3.2GHz.)

-- Q6600-main SMP1 --

Min. Time / Frame : 12mn 23s - 2046.62 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 12mn 23s - 2046.62 ppd
Cur. Time / Frame : 12mn 25s - 2041.13 ppd
R3F. Time / Frame : 12mn 25s - 2041.13 ppd
Eff. Time / Frame : 12mn 43s - 1992.98 ppd

-- Q6600-main SMP2 --

Min. Time / Frame : 12mn 25s - 2041.13 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 12mn 25s - 2041.13 ppd
Cur. Time / Frame : 12mn 26s - 2038.39 ppd
R3F. Time / Frame : 12mn 26s - 2038.39 ppd
Eff. Time / Frame : 12mn 46s - 1985.17 pp

When I ran a single SMP, it was ~8.5 minutes (IIRC)
