This game is so consolized that they might as well just create an Xbox 360 emulator and make you buy the 360 version. Then there are pauses in the game that get annoying. Ojects and AI going through walls. Anyways though, it is scary.

it does but it's not recommended. And it will be letterboxed.

Boo! Letterboxing

Also, there's no lean capability. It's a pure console shooter.

Yeah I'm disappointed by the lack of lean and the weird FOV (playing at 1920x1200 here), the game ran great and it looks good as well but I also get the pauses which got even worse by the part you control that mech. The interface really sucks though :( and the problem with the resolution, fov and letterboxing is a real deal breaker.

Hopefully all of this will be addressed by the time the game is finally released because the gameplay is fun (killing replica soldiers isn't as satisfiying though) and the atmosphere is still good.

I rather liked it.
It's just more of the same but so far the weapons had a good feel.

The FOV made me want to barf, though.
Had to look away a few times :(

I tried it and I didn't liked it. And the consolized GUI and resolutions issues make me wonder why they even bothered releasing it for the PC, I don't know what's going on exactly with some developers lately but I think they do that on purpose, they're probably happy seeing us being disappointed with the PC version, I can imagine them laughing in their offices, "suck it down pirates!", they probably think we'll skip it and get the console version in the end, if not they need to get out of business now, seriously... I'm just frustrated with this. I liked the original, but this... crap... just isn't worth my time and certainly not my money.

I can't even play it. Windows 7 is being a dick about it. I'm not sure if it has to do with the Nvidia drivers I'm using or DX11, but all I get is a black screen. I can hear the menu sounds and when I minimized the program once I saw the menu for a split second as it was minimizing. I was looking forward to this too :(

I hate Halo, I hate it with a passion, it popularized FPS on consoles and it dumbed down the whole damn genre.
The main dev platform for ANY game should be the PC... Then the game should be dumbed down to suit consoles.

I played through last night.. gun play seemed identical to the first one.. The horror parts were different I think.. in the first one you didn't take damage from the horror parts. That made the first one not really scary for me.. but now I'm not sure I can play it. heh.

thats some balls complaining that a demo pc game doesn't run on a beta OS with beta video drivers :)

I wasn't impressed at all.

The sound is ok, got the hairs standing on my neck a few times but other than that meh.

The combat seems really mickey mouse to me, almost like cartoon violence. For some reason I felt the first game had a lot more going for it in terms of visceral combat.

The HUD is lame too and it game me a headache as others have mentioned. I might download the PS3 demo too see if I like it more, but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

The only problem is the PC version still plays better. I tried it on my 360 and the PC frame rate is much higher, not to mention it looks a tad bit better on the PC. and you have the KBM.

Nothing like random people doing the devs' job for them. We should start getting used to this, eh?

Exactly, as long as devs release the tools we may be alright...

I mean what happened to my mouse binds ? All they had to do was update the original FEAR with better level designs and tweaks.

They couldn't fix the soft shadows , instead they now use a shadow fade like technique...

Haven't tried it yet but all the negative impressions are disappointing. It's like all Monolith's talk of "we listened to the players and changed stuff, etc" was bluster.

Yeah not sure what they were hearing.

I doubt you'd hear "Hey I like lame HUDS and carebear combat!!" or "Can we get some autoaim?" from too many PC gamers.

Yes. Everybody is getting this. Its even on the consoles. And I don't think its load points either because I purposely died just to see where the save point was and it was way before the pauses.

Do you mean the auto save bug/ (I mean feature).. BTW what happened to the quick save , load... I do get some serious pauses when I do a 360 some times ...As I recall ATI had this texture thrashing in the original FEAR...

Also the FPS is pretty much a constant 60 with my rig with that resolution except for times where it seems the FPS is capped at 30FPS. This is very annoying because it breaks the smoothness. F.E.A.R. pretty much had perfect resolution support. Why take a step down Monolith?

Its probably dipping to like 55 or something and then with vsync sans triple buffering its going to drop to 30. With triple buffering it would go to 40 I think?

Are you guys running it with vsync on or off ? Monolith sure did pack a lot of action in this demo. I keep finding new items and scares ....
