Extra money to defend DOMA quietly approved by House GOP

Wasting taxpayer money to pander to religious extremists.

Republicans are going to keep losing ground as long as they continue to fight "the war on gays" and "the war on women."

They need to change course and try becoming a party of fiscal and personal responsibility instead.

Lungren is a piece of shit. He failed to get re-elected so his time in the House is short

If you don't want to spend government money defending laws maybe you should stop filing court challenges against it?

Maybe the House should've done what the White House did... refuse to defend it.

There is also no justification for increasing the money spent on it.

I usually agree with you, but no.

The only party wasting money in a lawsuit against the government is the government that created the law. If they didn't want to get sued, they shouldn't have written a law that could be construed as unconstitutional.

Thanks, Republican House for wasting the peoples money. Remember, deficits don't matter when there is a Republican in the Whitehouse.

Wasn't it the republicans who wanted to cut the NEA and PBS because we're broke and saving a million dollars was worth it?

Guess this is what they needed the money for.

They aren't the ones decrying it at every turn. Hackery not found.

Yes, but Democrats are the ones who decry tax breaks for the rich at every opportunity.

Want to make a guess what one of the people suing against DOMA is suing about?

Yep, you guessed it tax breaks for millionaires.

I seriously doubt that HOR Repubs have the Constitutional authority to direct funding in this way w/o concurrence of both the Senate and the President.

The SCOTUS is asking about that, too-

Lungren noted that besides evaluating the constitutionality of the statute itself, the court has asked whether the House has the standing to defend the measure in court. That question, he said, could add to Bancroft’s workload because it might require additional briefing and preparation.

Here's hoping that the law firm gets stiffed for any amount above the original limit, or all of it, for that matter.

So now the Constitution matters when its important for leftists but they only want to obey it when it suits them.

It's ok for democrats to not be hypocrites. Republicans act like we need to squeeze every penny and then pull shit like this. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

You mean like how liberals decry tax cuts for millionaires at every turn, but then use them as the basis for suing to overturn DOMA?

Oh wait, that smells like hypocrisy to me.
