I heard from my mother about a flight she recently took from Chicago to Portland. She was seated next to a person she described as being about 350 pounds. She was unable to get a different seat because the plane was full. Her flight was very uncomfortable since the person overlapped the armrest and took up about 1/3 of my mom's seat, too. She's almost 80 years old, by the way.

Somebody please explain to me why it would be discriminatory to make people of that size buy two seats? Why is their right to not be charged extra money more important than the rights of the person next to them who has paid for their seat and would like to be able to use all of it?

I'm tired of politically correct. :|
 
I see nothing with charging people more money when they can't fit in the standard size seat. Isn't that what Southwest Airlines does (maybe it's another airline)?

Do they end up getting two seats then? Or does the airline just make more money and shove them in next to unsuspecting passengers?

I believe they get two seats since that's what they have to pay for.

That'd be great. They'd have scales built into the floors in front of the cash registers. "I'm sorry sir, but your weight exceeds the maximum allowed by law, so I can't sell you this cheeseburger. How about a salad?"

Unfortunately most fatties use the drive-thru because they're so lazy.
 
From that show Airline on A&E, I believe Southwest either makes you buy 2 seats (and gives you both) or forces you to upgrade to First Class if that would solve the problem.

Excellent. I wonder why the other airlines haven't followed suit. Maybe there was a backlash.
 
IMO There is nothing wrong with making fat/big people who are oversized pay for a bigger seat in buisness or first class (or 1.5 seats in coach and then for benches with 3 seats .. sit 2 of em.
 
Rollercoasters have seats that are 1.5 the size of a standard seat. Maybe planes can adopt this idea and have fat seats.

southwest has no first class. it is all the same/coach on all flights

and yes, they do require the purchase of 2 tickets if they deem it necessary to accomodate the customer

midwestexpress signature service (all seats are business class style) FTW!
 
Just stick the two biggest fattys on the plane next to each other. Then compensate by shifting luggage to the other side. They'll quickly realize that they need to buy two tickets or be compressed by an even bigger fatty next to them for hours at a time.

Which airline gives out oreos! All the ones i've been on give dumb pretzels.

My opinion is that yes, the fatties should be given 2 seats and pay for 2 seats. Or be forced to pay for first class where the seats are much larger.

Yes, SW has a policy that if you are overwieght they will charge you for an extra seat.
 
I thought they did make you buy another seat if you can't fit into a regular seat... but I guess if you buy your tickets and check in online they have no way of making you.
 
I bet you in the future airliners will probably start making huge seats to accommodate these fatties. I'm sick of this society on how they cater to the fatties.. Especially those lingerie places for Plus size women.. instead of making bigger clothes to hide the fat, keep it tighter so THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
