I think they should weigh people with their luggage and make them pay based on that.

Its not fair when a 120lb person with too much luggage has to pay extra when a 300lb person weighs more than that other person with their luggage.

She was unable to get a different seat because the plane was full. Her flight was very uncomfortable since the person overlapped the armrest and took up about 1/3 of my mom's seat, too. She's almost 80 years old, by the way.

Somebody please explain to me why it would be discriminatory to make people of that size buy two seats? Why is their right to not be charged extra money more important than the rights of the person next to them who has paid for their seat and would like to be able to use all of it?

I'm tired of politically correct. :|

I agree with you.

Screw the fatties. Let's just stop selling them food.

That'd be great. They'd have scales built into the floors in front of the cash registers. "I'm sorry sir, but your weight exceeds the maximum allowed by law, so I can't sell you this cheeseburger. How about a salad?"

Unfortunately most fatties use the drive-thru because they're so lazy.

I agree, people have too much freedom and get to make too many decisions that might be bad for them. We should outlaw salt and cheeseburgers because they are not good for you. Also, perhaps we should outlaw feelings and emotions too, as they can incite violence and war. Currently, the stories in Equlibrium, 1984, Farenheit 451, Brave new World are all fiction, but thanks to people like you, they can all become reality!
Your rant is foolish and ignorant.
He was talking about private bussiness, you are talking about the government.

As for the 2nd ticket idea, I dont know how it would work.
Everybody buys tickets online or over the phone or maybe through a travel agent.
The airline wouldnt know your size until its too late.
Unless they have a policy (and state it clearly in advance) that if you cant fit you dont fly, so please buy two tickets if you need them.

Also, I love the idea of making all the seats the same as first class. Let the rich fvckers have their free champaign and chicken cordon blue (bleu?). But give everybody a reasonable seat. Sardines dont like their situation and neither do human beings. But, apparently, the only way for those billion-dollar companies to make a profit is by packing us in there like Noah's Ark. Which may explain why the first class tickets can be anywhere from 3x to 10x as much depending on the flight.

No, I was not being foolish or ignorant. I was being sarcastic. I was just taking Kalvin00 and Nebor's ideas to the extreme. One thing leads to another to another etc. Also, It seems like pretty much most if not all government decisions are based upon what's best for private buisness. So it's pretty safe to say private buisness controls much of the government. But, that's a bit too P/N for this forum, so I'll stop here.

Get this motherfvckin' fatty out my motherfvckin' OT!

well, if fatties are not allowed on a plane,

how would half of anandtech.com's members be able to go to their cross country LAN sausage fests?

Most people who fly first class are business travelers who are constantly on planes and bring the airlines so much repeat business that they get perks. Before you stereotype everything please not that some rich "fvckers" do buy first class seats (as do rich non-fvckers).
Neptune to the freak, sarcasm doesnt carry in the written word, especially with the english skills people have here on AT.
And I usually fly 1st class, (when I do fly) all the extra money for such tickets does not come from "perks". It comes from real money.
To finish, stereotypes dont just happen for no reason.
Good god, can you really be so clueless about the world in which you live?

The way I see it, if they can afford to gourge down on 7000+ calorie daily diets, then they can afford another ticket for their fat arses.

They will, after all, get twice the meals.... which I believe is a huge incentive for fatties.

Yes, SW has a policy that if you are overwieght they will charge you for an extra seat.

I think airlines should charge overweight people (who cannot fit into one seat) an extra seat. One of the favorite things that airlines show on A&E loves to show are the gate agents getting overweight people to pay for extra seats . However, I do feel that since SW is open seating, if there are extra seats available, the passenger should get a refund on the second seat since s/he won't have to sit next to someone.

The fukking seats are WAY to small for anyone taller than 6'4". I'm 6'7" 250lbs have huge shoulders and not very much of a gut (I'm about 15-20lbs overweight) and I do not fit in any of the coach seating-it's so uncomfortable to fly even 1 hour that I try not to do it. Now should I be expected to buy 2 seats because my shoulders are eye level to most of you midgets and take up another 1/3 of your seat? I think not. We need bigger fukking planes with larger seats ;)

If you discrimate against fat people you're making the logical fallacy of including any 'big' person' within your generalization.

Had a similar experience with some fat slob in the middle seat, plane was packed. When he put the arm rest up and mashed me, I said excuse me, forced the arm rest back down and told him that I paid for a full seat, and that is where I am sitting, unless he wanted to rent part of my seat for some cash.

He knew his fat @** would not fit and he should have purchased two seats, and the airlines should force people over a certain girth to purchase 2 seats.

And because of his weight and/or lack of hygiene he smelled bad to boot and hated it when I aimed my air vent to blow his stench away from me.

I also complained bitterly to the airline after the flight and they gave me free upgrade to first class on my return trip home later that week. I does pay to complain :p

I can hear him already: "We'll be more comfortable with the armrest up." Your proper response: "I'll be more comfortable if it's down." Good move.

Not reading all the replies but IMO no ppl shouldn't have to pay for 2 seats just because their big. If anything the Airlines should put bigger seats on part of the plane and assign heavy weight ppl those seats. I don't see how Airlines would be able to get away with it. I would be surprised if any even do this since they are likely to get sued.

word... but then you'd end up with landmonsters w/no luggage being charged overweigh fees (just as heavy luggage) :D

Well have a scale in the seat. Go over the limit and and the engine refuses to start and a pair of pedals come out of the floor.

There are many other diseases that makes it very hard to loose weight/fat. Some of them are from heredity.

But I agree that if a person is overweight and takes part of the other seat, he should pay for 2 seats or remain grounded.

A simple way of doing it is, if a person requires a belt extender, then he should purchase 2 seats or not allowed to fly. (Ofcourse, he should also be entitled to 2 meals then instead of just 1 so that the next time he/she flies, he is required to purchase 3 seats and not 2 ;) :p)

EDIT: Another solution is to put all the fatties (who require additional seats) with snakes on the plane. That will almost solve the problem automatically ;).

Sir, Would you like to purchase another seat because of your overweight or wish to sit with a snake on your seat during your flight ? :D
