Definitely not set on the Acer, in fact, at anything near an equal price I'll take that SOYO. Unfortunately it's not available at the moment. That said, if I can't convince someone to ship me one I'll just have to wait for that Soyo or some other deal....

I visited the Santa Ana MC yesterday evening, and a knowledgeable sales person told me the pricing was good till March 3rd. Also, a new shipment of SLACR's was coming in soon and call him back to check on them (they must be commissioned).

Just dropped by the Cambridge MA MC, they still have a bunch of Q6600s left (all the ones I checked were G0), and only 7 E4500s. E8400 is out of stock (surprise!). Was going to pick up a Q66 and anther E84, but ah well; Q66 for $199 was worth it.

The email states 2/27/08. Where did you get that date?

From their snail mail sales catalog, as well as in-store signage.

As someone else noted, the Q6600 deal is good until 3/03. This item is not in the snail mail catalog so that's probably why it has an extra day of validity.

I assume you mean the Tustin MC. I called this morning and was told they have at least 100 in stock.

Did you actually go there and buy one?

Sure did. Brand new boxed SLACR. I needed another for my brother but they allowed only one per customer. Went to Fry's at Fountain Valley and they agreed to pricematch but only thing when I went to pay for it, they only have opened units.

They had a bunch of Q6600's in the Madison Heights, MI store today but no E8400's. I talked to one of the guys working there and he said they sold about 1,000 of the E8400's and don't expect to get anymore for several weeks. He said Intel is hoarding the 45nm chips to try and blow out the rest of the 65nm.

Buckerfabies. I want an e8400!

Haha, the joy of monopoly.

My friend went last night to the Paterson, NJ, Micro Centre, where they had over 100 Q6600s. Again, no E8400s. He decided to pick up the Q6600, but then things went pear-shaped: both on the telephone and in person, the staff insisted that you have to buy a bundle to get the Q6600 at the $200 price. Now, this Q6600 price is blazoned over Micro Centre's home page, and there's nothing about any mandatory bundle! Has anyone heard this sort of condition at any other location?

After a bit of back-and-forth, a shop assistant eventually convinced my friend to buy 4 GB of Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX for about the same price as it's offered online after rebate. So he wound up spending slightly less than $300 all told for a Q6600 and 4 gigs memory, which isn't too shabby considering a few weeks ago he would have paid nearly that much just for the Q6600.

I've decided to wait for E8400s, though I did pull the trigger on 2 GB of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4. Newegg had a code dropping it to $69 - $40 rebate, and the rebate period concluded with Leap Day. I intend to buy the Abit IP35-E next week, and then it's just a matter of waiting for the E8400. I'm inclined towards the Penryns owing to their greater efficiency, and I'm a bit frightened of what I've seen of quadcore power usage.
