Yeah the e8400 definitely has a snappier feel to it, most likely due to the cache. It has 50% more cache per proc (6MB for two vs. 8MB for 4).

Can't wait to pair it with a HDD with 32MB cache.

OH BTW I called the Rockville store and they said they had a bunch in stock. I went and got the last one in the display case. I overheard a sales rep saying they had sold over a hundred in the last couple of days.

First, thanks for the heads up OP! Both MC's in ATL had them in stock......interestingly, when I was in the Alpharetta MicroCenter and inquired about availability, I was asked....quite seriously.....how many did I want? Salesman was quite willing to let me walk out with as many as I could pay for.

Second.....personally, I'm moving back to a quad core cpu from an 8400. I, myself, have found that the quad core just acts a little better for me......I know it's all perception, but now all my computers in the house are now running quad core cpus.......

Anyone want an 8400...retail version......3 weeks old? ;)

Were the E8400's ever in stock online at Micro Center? The page never specifically said out of stock, but it gives you an error when you try to actually buy it. Are they evn $199 in stores (just curious, there are none anywhere near here)?

I added one to my cart a few days ago (Friday, IIRC). The day before, it did the same as you stated...added but gave me an error with nothing in cart. Just after adding the one on Friday, I tried again later and it was gone again.

Both ATL Microcenters have a sign for the 8400 for $189.........but both say they've not had any stock since the sale price began. Kind of makes you wonder.......

And there is at least one 8400 that hits 4GHz on stock voltages....at least on an Asus X38 motherboard.....that's one month old for sale for around $175. Can be seen at Xtremesystems.org forums.

AFAIK no, never online. The advertised sale pricing of $189 and $199 was only for in-store. Chicago store had E8400 in stock when they were $189 because a guy I know from local LAN parties got one from there at that price.

Being an MIT student I'm pretty close to that MC and would be willing to pick stuff up for someone if they can pick up a pair of the monitors from this thread for me http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2157966&enterthread=y

Obviously, tell me if you can get them before buying them that way I don't end up with a several people sending me monitors. :)

Look up nancy2tony on ebay to see my somewhat lengthy and 100% positive feedback rating.

Not to my knowledge but I will pick up and ship as many of them as you want if you can track down and ship even one of the 24" Acer LCD's in the thread I linked above. Office Depot is selling them but I can't get any here in Boston. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. :)

Can't you just buy that online? As far as I can tell it's the same price online as in store, which is not the case with the procs at Micro Center.

If I add it to my cart I immediately get "THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED" and it won't let me order it. If I could I would but since I can't I'm more than happy to help anyone out with this MicroCenter deal if someone is willing to help me out with this monitor.

I was thinking about helping you out but apparently my Office Depot is sold out of those monitors.

But for anyone wanting an E8400, try looking for the Xeon E3110. It's the exact same chip but with the Xeon name. I just ordered one from ExcaliberPC (OEM or "tray" as they call it) for $210 shipped.

none near me either.

i'm a little curious as to why you want that particular monitor so badly though. the price is OK, but people have been complaining about the panel (search slickdeals for the acer monitor)- bad blacks, minimal adjustment capabilities, crappy viewing angles, etc. the 24" soyos and westinghouses seem to be receiving better reviews.

The price is good and I've had good experiences with Acer monitors, the comments by people in the thread didn't seem bad either and I tend to trust people here more than random anonymous reviews. I also happen to be in need of a new monitor at the moment and there doesn't seem to be much of an alternative at the present. Do you know some trick to ordering the Soyo or a Westinghouse for around 300? If so I'm all ears.

SOYO

$250, seems to be expired - but skimming SD or AT's forums will show you that this deal has popped up more than a few times in the past couple of months.

Westinghouse
http://forums.slickdeals.net/s...highlight=westinghouse
$329 sams club

i guess all i'm really saying is that a $300 pricepoint on a 24" lcd isn't enough incentive to purchase in itself, as more and more panels can be found at that price. you just have to keep an eye out for them. aesthetically, the acer looks great. when it comes to performance, it seems like people have been leaning toward the soyo. i'm sure you're smart enough to take it all with a grain of salt. what looks phenomenal to some might seem subpar to yourself, and vice versa. so if you're set on the acer, get the acer. i just figured i'd let you know that there are other very competitive models out there at very similar prices.
