I think she was the one who leaked that the 390X was 20% faster than the 980. Everyone assumed it was Fiji, but really it was updated Hawaii from GloFo.


Seriously now, there are so many rumors and people read into them what they want to. The disinformation from AMD has really had people chasing their tales. It's all part of "The Process".

Oooh. "The Process". Makes it sound like something good is coming. Hopefully, they didn't use this same "Process" before bulldozer launched. That would not be good.
 
Arguing about these rumors is a waste of time IMO. It's far more productive to just wait for actual benchmarks.

That and I think there's intentional deception in the leaks. We're getting two extremes of "slower than 980 Ti" to "blows away Titan X".

I'm not even convinced we know for sure it'll be limited to 4GB VRAM.

well said 😀 AMD has kept a tight lid and let the rumour mongers have the time of their lives. As long as AMD delivers with a crushing win at all price points I think the strategy was the right one. If its the alternate ie the GPUs suck - then too not saying anything is the best plan of action. I am confident its the former.

Actually I would say the reverse, if they can deliver a crushing win, saying nothing is a huge mistake. If people give in and buy a 980Ti they are not likely to turn around and get a AMD card, even if it is faster, they will be stuck with card they just bought. Sure some will sell and buy again, but not as many that would buy right now. I know I would buy a AMD fury right now if that were the case, but I may give in and get a 980ti instead.


AMD is being stupid if they have a monster card waiting, really stupid.


Now if they don't, then waiting is fine as it won't make a difference.

Imagine what happens if AMD starts trash talking or presenting performance charts.

Immediately naysayers will say its BS marketing, cherry picking or outright fud..

The final say is always: Let's get some proper independent reviews.

There will always be naysayers, but honestly I would listen. Saying nothing is a mistake they will lose customers that's a fact. That's if they have a monster card waiting, again if not it matters little what they do.

You don't think there's enough leaks to warrant undecided buyers waiting?

People who buy NV now have already decided they are going with NV. AMD's stuff isn't going to change that, maybe except causing a price drop on NV GPUs which some would wait for while others don't. Look at all the Titan X buyers, a few short months later, its obsoleted by a $350 cheaper 980Ti, do they care? From the responses here, nope. They paid to get it back then.

Those on the fence, its not an unknown that AMD is planning a big PC gaming show at E3.
 
Unlike CPU market...GPU is still on the same nodes in the 28nm area...so all is possible.

And if AMD really delivers some ridiculously huge 600mm²+++ chip for top end..I see no reason why it won't be able to compete.

I mean the die size alone is rumored ( I mean, we did see a die-shot a short while ago) to be like 50% larger than Hawaii...in addition to that HBM.

So even if it was "just Hawaii" with HBM and 50% "moar stuff"...that alone could already make a competitive product.



But so far we rely on nothing but "leaks" and "rumors"...and every single leak/rumor says something else.


One rumor its better than the Titan X next rumor "it's so weak that it will only sell via pricing"

I mean...I know that the majority owns Nvidia GPUs...and that the 2 camp fanboyism is stronk in both camps...but pleaaaase just calm down a little and wait until we get actual information...you know...the kind we can trust...and not "trust".

This isn't nursery school bud. I don't recall suped up hype for either the Nvidia problematic solder chipsets nor the VRM problem that was supposedly limited to one OEM. I do recall legendary amounts of it for bulldozer. As I'm sure you do as well.
I hope this Fury launch is not a repeat of that is what I'm trying to say.

I'm on the fence and about to buy a 980ti. So no I don't think the current leaks are enough, at all, especially considering half the leaks/rumors say the thing is a dud.

Not everyone that is going to go nvidia would have gone no matter what, again I'm in that camp. I would easily buy a Fiji card if it were faster. I'm running 4k I need that extra power.

frankly, their waiting on say anything official about the power of Fiji even though the 980ti was released at a decent price point, is sad. Yes we all know it will probably be coming on the 16th, but I hate to break it to both you and AMD but people are impatient, and don't like to wait, especially when there's a viable alternative right now. The only thing keeping me from getting a 980ti is the lack of available non reference coolers, and a small part because I want to see what AMD has first, but that is starting to wain.

So they should release it right now just to satisfy those impatient people? I'm looking for an upgrade, but I can easily wait two measly weeks for more information, plus the lack of aftermarket 980s Tis makes this a non-hurry.

Sure the 980 Ti takes hype away from the release, but after two weeks in the tech world, people will be focused on AMD's new cards, without any new stuff from nvidia till next year.

I don't think they should release the product right now, I think they need to release some actual performance data right now. And yes they should because they are loosing sales.

Exactly the 980ti release does take the spot light, a spot light they could easily take back, with just a little performance data release.
 
It's coming out on the 16th probably with reviews as well. Not a ton will change in that time frame. I doubt they will reveal anything before then.

But who's going to believe it? Till the cards are on hand and reviewed nobody will believe anything. Leaked benches from AMD might be dismissed like others.

Again as someone in this position I would listen, and be more willing to wait.

As you even pointed out you, me and many others are waiting for aftermarket coolers on the 980ti, and this AMD card. Once those Aftermarket coolers hit the 980ti with up to 25% overclocks how many more are going to stop being so patient for AMD to make a move.

Sorry but this is not about sales in 2 weeks. This is about sales in the next 18-24 months. Do people really think that GPUs only sell on launch day or the first 2-3 weeks. Then what would Nvidia and AMD do for revenue for the rest of the year. :biggrin:

16/14nm FINFET GPUs with HBM2 will arrive by late Q3 2016 and still they will be very low volume. It won't be till 2017 when we see 16/14nm FINFET GPU volume pick up and maybe in H2 2017 we will see 16/14nm FINFET GPU volume overtake 28nm GPU volume. 16/14nm FINFET GPUs are not going to be easy to ramp smoothly into high volume when the foundries are having yield issues on tiny <100 sq mm mobile chips with 5W TDP. 😀

So I repeat AMD needs to get this R9 3xx launch near perfect as they are long way behind Nvidia this gen and the success of this series is crucial to AMD's Computing and Graphics division financial health. The software aspect should be very well executed. Performance, frametime consistency, CF scaling and support, CF Freesync - all need to be spot on. So again if AMD is taking a few weeks to get everything right. Thats not a problem. :thumbsup:
