close proximity -- Proximity means near or close!

very unique -- Unique means "one of a kind"; you cannot be more "one of a kind" than someone else.

Announcers who say, "We'll be back momentarily." Momentarily means for a short while, NOT in a short while. What these morons are telling you is that when they come back, it will just be for a brief period. They are not saying anything (in English, that is) about when they'll be back, which they obviously think they are.

"Let's be friends" -- Well, then, can I sniff your soiled panties and sodomize your Lhasa Apso while you're out?

The phrase "You got your . . .", as in, "You got your helicopters, you got your assault troops . . ." If I had any assault troops, pinhead, you'd get yours!!

And, finally, People who utilize "utilize" for "use".

Also, and I'm sad to say this is absolutely necessary in order to head off the idiots who would otherwise post in response to point out my "error": People who don't understand the utilization of irony for emphasis, as in someone utilizing "utilize" to decry the utilization of "utilize" by those who utilize it instead of "use".

Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I'm not totally down with most of the chat and email shorts people use these days such as "k," "asl," "ROFL," etc. Though, I'm sure I'm guilty of using many of these myself, I've been making a concious effort not to recently.

Also, I don't even want to start on ebonics. I just think the english language is in serious trouble. Eventually, dialects in our country will drift so far apart that there will be a language barrier within the US.

?

Eventually? Unfortunatley it already is. Having lived in small towns in the midwest my entire life, I need a translator to understand what a inner-city youth is saying. First off, proper enunciation is non-existant, and secondly, the words they do use are slang.

I think for a government to even consider the acceptance of such "jibba jabba" is step backwards in the education process.

<< "I could care less" -- no you couldn't you moron! >>

If they say it like that. they ARE a moron.. it's " I Couldn't care less "

and yeah, that's st00pid!

<< "I could care less" -- no you couldn't you moron!

any double negative really irks me too
>>

double negatives are ok. they use double negatives in spanish all the time.

i agree about "could care less." I sometimes ask people who say that, "if you could care less how much less could you care?" They usually don't get it. lol

Another one.....when people refer to a single person as "we". If it has the right tone of voice, it can be very arrogant, I hate it.

like "are we ready?" when in fact they are talking about the other person solely

editted for clarification

Hey, maybe they're talking about the royal "we", in which case it's a compliment. 🙂

And I like irregardless. I'm well aware it's a nonstandard usage (though not techinically "wrong" anymore), but I like it so I say it. 😛

However, living in the Northeast, the way people drop their r's like there's no tomorrow bugs the sh!t out of me. "I got a new ca." "Let's go to the ba." Sweet Bridget, put the r back in there!

When i say this i'm just stating what i hate hearing.

I hate, i mean hate when i hear "great person".

OMFG, i just want to punch the idiots that say that.

New and Improved.

If something's new, it can't be improved!!! Improved from what? The version before it? No, because it's new!! ARGH!!!!:|

<< When i say this i'm just stating what i hate hearing.

I hate, i mean hate when i hear "niger".
>>

"Niger" is a country. The word you're thinking of has two g's.

What did the poor people of Niger ever do to you? 😉

Yeah, I've got to say, for the longest time I HATED all the 'net lingo like lol, afk, k, l8r, etc. And while I still hate and will NOT use most of it, I do use some things, like IMO, IIRC and such. But that l8r really ticks me off. My face starts twitching and everything.

As for ebonics, man, I hear it all the time, since people assume that just because I'm black (well, half anyway) that I speak it. Well, I don't, and it makes my ears bleed everytime I hear it, so stop assuming I'll understand what the hell you're saying!

You gotta walk the walk and talk the talk

That phrase grates on my nerves. Everytime someone in management uses it you know they screwed up somehow and want you to fix their problem for them. It always involves more work, less pay and usually comes at about the same time as more layoffs.

Arrggghhhhhh.
