I personally have an issue with people blasting their handling on road, since it's clear they're not a sedan and shouldn't be driven as such, but i couldn't care less whether you have a 4WD and don't take it off road...or tow, or have a large family and take it camping etc...

its not that I hate them, I too would like a full size truck some day, but the thing is (generally speaking) people who drives SUVs drive like they own the road, cutting people off, speeding, etc. Yes, I do see people in sedans doing this, but not as much. Remember that I did say generally speaking.

There are bad drivers in any sized vechile, I see little ricer cars zigging in and out of traffic all day long, I drive my SUV for the utility of it, when I need to get some hardware from Home depot I'm always glad I have my Tahoe any day over something like this.

That would like just as ridiculous on a Tahoe as it does on that Miata.

1. They cost far more than you get out of them- they're a waste of money. People drop $60k on a terrible car like the escalade instead of getting something intelligent.
2. they make the roads less safe for people with reasonable sized cars. they tip over, obscure vision, and are driven by poor drivers.
3. they get obscenely embarrassing gas mileage, driving up gas prices and contaminating this world that WE have to live in.
4. they're UGLY. and if you buy one, it's like screaming "I HAVE NO TASTE AND A SMALL PENIS" to the world.

One last thing: The whole complaining about how a collision between an SUV and a smaller vehicle is unfair, is beyond stupid. You chose to buy a small vehicle. You know what is out on the road when you bought it. You're the moron. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. Or watch wtf you're going and you won't have to worry about it.

yes, because we all know that if you drive just fine you won't get in an accident. no, you don't have to ever worry about some idiot talking on their phone or driving like they're in a grand prix.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the size of the vehicle now does it?
the damage done has quite a bit to do with the size of the vehicle. but i still refuted your statement 'watch wtf you're going and you won't have to worry about it.' you can't trust other drivers to driver properly, and even if they do drive properly there is still a chance for an unavoidable accident.
iirc, 4wd trucks are more likely to flip than 2wd trucks. that is why you're charged more. they have actuarial data to back them up.

That would be "modified 4wd trucks" Almost all stock 4wd truck's are no higher than 2wd truck's.
i'm pretty sure that almost all 4wd trucks sit a couple inches higher than most 2wd trucks from the factory, with the exception of those off-road package trucks like Z71.
and again, unnecessary SUV/truck owners don't just waste more money on fuel, they drive up the fuel by increasing the demand for it. so that affects everyone else's pocketbook directly.

The cost of fuel is determined by OPEC. Not supply or demand. And by the willingness of how much the sheep will pay for it. If you doubt me, wait until all of the refineries that were suppposedly damaged by hurricanes, are back up and running. Let's see if the cost of fuel goes down to where it was before August 2005.

I know that you're D.O, I am referring to N.A. And speaking of which, why are your fuel prices high?

Edit: D.O=D.U (Down unda)
you've just proven how little you know by saying that supply and demand have nothing to do with it. i suggest you leave the thread before putting your foot any further into your mouth.

I'll stay wherever I feel like it. And I know what supply & demand is. The rise in fuel cost is not "supply & demand". It is nothing more than "opportunistic greed". If you believe otherwise, you're a moron. Now go fill up your tank.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that your postcount is a substitute for intelligence. You're not impressing anyone.

I don't hate SUV's... I only hate the attitudes of some of those SUV drivers. Whenever I ride with SUV owners, their whole personality changes. Some of the comments I hear from them are... "Get off the rode you little piece of sh!t!!!" or "Get a real car!!". A friend of mine got run off the road by a SUV driven by some soccer mom talking on the cell phone. He ended up hitting a pole which got lodged under his car which cause thousands in damage. The lady never even looked back and just kept driving. That's freakin messed up!

Seems to me it's a bit like disliking dual core CPUs or people who own them and don't have a use for them 'in your opinion'...

a dual core CPU does not even come close to using the fuel of a SUV.

in my opinion people who have desk jobs and drive a SUV or a ford 350 dulley to work are morons and irresponsible.

and you also don't mind that many of these ignorant SUV drivers try to drive them as if they WERE car and were never educated as to the difference in handling between a car and an SUV?? or that they drive these SUV's in snow as if 4 / All wheel drive means great traction even when slamming on the brakes?

i'm sure non of these things bothers you as an intelligent individual.

I said that kind of thing when I drove in my wife's Accord... some people just don't belong on the roads because they have no clue (or not enough experience) how to drive in the most basic circumstances.

It's the driver, not the car, though I don't deny the size of the vehicle gives some people more "confidence" in saying things like that. But it doesn't mean that's the only factor. If someone pisses you off, it's because they pissed you off, not because you're in a tank and can potentially run them over and the other guy is shivering in his Nikes.

It's not the fact that they have them, it's the fact that most of the moms that hasve them can't drive them or park them. Drive whatever you want but drive it well. Stay in your lane, use your signals, etc. And when you park, don't try to squeeze it into a tiny spot when you can't park straight. Park somewhere else and leave yourself lots of room.

if they didn't pollute more than other cars then I don't see any reason not to like them.

My complaint: the poseur fashion buyers. These people buy the SUV because they don't want a minivan or just think it's a cool car, and they'll make up all kinds of practical excuses to justify their purchase:

"I need the room for my (2) kids, trips to Home Depot, etc."
"The 4WD gives me better handling in the rain"
or the classic safety excuse
"I don't feel safe in a car surrounded by all those big trucks"*

Just admit you bought for fashion, and be done with it. This one guy I knew was a real fashion trendsetter. 10 years ago he had a 4Runner for his daily commuter. He never drove off-road, but hey, it had brush guards!

If you're not driving off-road, driving through unplowed snow drifts, or pulling a big trailer, you don't need a full-size SUV. Even then a pickup truck would probably work better unless you needed room for more than 4. It just as inefficient, but at least it costs less and doesn't have the yuppie pretensions.

* SUV safety is a myth. The only safer scenario is if you hit something smaller. Otherwise, they're just as dangerous or more dangerous than cars. They look strong because they're big and boxy, but in a rollover the roofs crush as easily as a car's. They're not better in single-vehicle accidents either because the crumple zones have to dissipate the kinetic energy of a lot more weight, typically 5000lbs instead of 3000lbs.

Good, start paying for my gas because you are hogging it all up.

Let's see:

1. Fuel inefficient

2. Make NO sense for most people. The VAST majority of SUV owners will never take that truck off the paved roads of their neighborhood or freeways.

3. Expensive beyond reason

4. Hard to drive and most people can't drive them for sh1t. Dunno how many times I've waited for some numbnuts in a gigantic 4x4 truck back up, go forward, back up, go forward in what ends up in about a 10 point turn just so they can get out of a *parking space*.

5. Dangerous to other vehicles on the road. SUV's don't save lives, they TAKE lives when numbnuts in his Ford Giganticus plows headlong into the ass-end of some poor fool in their Geo Metro because the jackass in the SUV didn't realize that 8,000 pounds can't stop in as short a distance as 3,000 pounds.

Those are my top 5. Suffice to say, I will NEVER buy an SUV, and until American manufacturers get their sh1t together I will NEVER buy an American made car.

Because every time there's one next to me in a parking lot, I can't see sh1t when I'm pulling out.

When I'm behind one, they can't accelerate at all, so I'm stuck behind them.

Some people like to hate. They believe hating SUV owners is acceptable because they are better than people who own those types of vehicles. Notably these people who hate are generally poorly educated and spout rhetoric based on highly biased information.

Nope, pretty sure it has to do with not making a light because of an SUV driver or having some guy slam his breaks and honk at me when I'm getting out of my parking spot because there's an insanely larege SUV parked next to me.

Not true for all SUVs. Chevy Tahoes are way overpowered. I drove a Tahoe on the job for about a year and the pick up was awesome, at least for the first 20K, after that it began to get sluggish. Get it in a cross wind at highway speeds and look out, the front end bounces like boat.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Make up for the extra gas the SUV's take and pay for the gas for the rest of us.

Yes, there should be a ban on NASCAR and all other racing until the energy crisis is solved.
