Memorize a shit ton of words, especially rare two letter words like ae, and 7 letter words for that extra 50 points.

Don't waste important letters that can be used to 'combo' words. Like 'S'.

Memorize 2 letter words. These can help you play in tight areas and pick up additional points.

Don't set up the other player to be able to use the triple point spaces. Save your big point letters (x, q, z) for when the other player sets you up for the triple point spaces. If a triple point space is available and you don't have any big point letters use the triple space anyway so your opponent can not. Same thing for doubles, to a lesser extent.

PS. mostly for triple word spaces, but triple letter spaces work too if you can manage it.

Trade in Q and Z if you can't make a word for them, the points count against you if you don't use them. The only words you should look up are ones that use those letters, especially any word with Q that doesn't require a u.

The problem with scrabble is that it is just people mostly making up or regurgitating some memorized trick words. If I ever hosted a game at my house, the rules would be that you must, without reference, be able to give a correct definition of the word and use it in a sentence.

triple word score FTW! But unless you use the Q tile and the Z tile in your word you fail.

yep, 2 letter words are your best friend.

if you feel the need to memorize any of them, start with the 26 phonetic spellings of the alphabet (2 or 3 letters, all of them).

-s or -ing or -ed or -es, etc onto any word on the board can do wonderful things for you.

Don't use the Scrabble dictionary. Most of the two-letter words in it are acronyms (shouldn't be considered words) or are from other languages.

Or just don't play Scrabble.

Hell, disallowing all two letter words (unless you have no other options) could make it more fun.

I just forbid people from using the "Scrabble Players' Dictionary" that has all of those ridiculous words and try to use a dictionary from 20+ years ago.

This is a snippet from here:
http://www.helium.com/items/1501505-highest-scoring-scrabble-word

In October of 2006, Michael Cresta set a new world record for the highest scoring Scrabble word: QUIXOTRY, 365 points. During the same game, Cresta reached a record breaking 830 total points by one player in a single game. When combined with the total score of his opponent, Wayne Yorra, the game also reached a record 1,320 points in a single game!
How is it possible to earn 365 points on a single word? QUIXOTRY was a once in a lifetime play. To begin, the Q and X are two of the highest scoring Scrabble tiles. QUIXOTRY is also an eight letter word, created by using all seven of the players tiles, earning him a 50 point bonus. Finally, the word was played on not one, but two triple-word bonus squares!

In Scrabble, having a word that spans across two triple-word bonus squares is known as a triple-triple. Triple-triples are rather rare. They can only be made with an eight letter word (known as a bingo) and are worth nine times the word's total score, plus the 50 point bonus for using all of the player's tiles in a single word.

Most I ever got was from REQUEST like 111 points :( With the Q on a triple letter score and the word on a triple word score.

Never make a word that allows the other player to set up a triple word score, hell people hate playing me because I make short ass words, so they can never get to DW or TW tiles.

Its really funny how there's universal agreement that a game of monopoly ends up pissing everyone who didn't win.

Never said they were easy. Just showing what can be done and has by some of the best players. The idea is to start an expandable word in the center and then try to extend it to cover one or both of the triples. This does require a word that totals 15 letters overall.

For example take this word:
Begin with: LEDGE

Next would be: KNOWLEDGE

Finally it will be:
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
.. which is 15 letters total with the end result covering both of end triple word scores. But you would not use all 7 letters in any one turn so the 50 point bonus for that does not come into play.
