Grabbed 2 of these drives from the Circuit City in Freehold, NJ -- no problems at all with the 110% PM as per your instructions. Others are correct though in saying that a lot depends on the store managers at CC. The Brick NJ manager would only PM up to CompUSA's in store price. Would advise you to call the store first to check stock and question the manager about the deal. If it works for you at your store, it's a great Hot Deal! Thanks.

OMG WTF

I GOT 2 drives from Circuit City, open them both up and 1 of them turns out to be a 1280MB Caviar 22100 or somethin, old old. The warranty alone experied 3 years ago.

I plan on taking it back to CC after work today, but if i worked at circuit city, i surely wouldnt believe someone that old me they got a 1280mb drive instead.( I remember reeading that someone else got anb older drive like this from an 80gb box) let me know.

what should I do about this? Should i just try to exachange stating it doesnt work, or should i tell them?

I dont want to end up having paid 80$ for a 1280mb harddrive.

Well i just went to my local Circuit City (in Springfield, PA - that's the springfield in delaware county....) and I had no trouble at all. I'd recommend that store, if you live nearby.

I brought the drive to the front, showed the lady the price. She had to call the manager (on the phone), and ask him if it was allright. She mentioned how there was a mail in rebate, but it didn't say how much it was and blah blah blah. Apparently, the manager told her to go ahead. She gave me the drive for $79.99 (after checking the ad carefully to make sure it's the same drive) When I asked about the 110% price match thing, she told me that it's only 110% if you buy the drive from CC, and then find it cheaper. At this point of course, I asked the obvious. "if i buy this drive for your price right now, and then come back in 10 seconds and point to this ad, can i get the full 110%?" She basically told me not to push my luck - she said that they don't even usually match comp usa, (and that she was being nice enough as is, basically)... Fine.

With tax, it came to $84.79.

As I finished up, she suggested that I check the company's website (Western Digital) because i may be able to print a rebate from there. Hehe - what a nice salesperson!

I wish you all the luck in the world, because you will need it. Despite the fact that I believe you, this will probably be a "can of worms".

Last year I bought a sealed All in Wonder Radeon at BB. Inside was an old ati rage card.:disgust: Luckily, despite the fact that BB manager did not want to help me out, the csr I bought it from let me exchange it. Whew! I thought I was stuck! I hope you are this fortunate.

I also remember someone last year bought a palm or something at Office Depot (or Office Max?). It was taken out of the case by an employee and sold to the "lucky" individual. He got home and opened it up to find a BAG of SAND!:Q Even posted pictures to show us all. Last I remember, OD (?) was trying to accuse him of fraud. Never did hear how it was resolved.

To reiterate what I said, I wish you luck.

ok so i had a similar experience, except i went to compusa (culver city, ca). manager said instant rebate down to the final price of $79.99 cause "they didn't have a current rebate."

SO i am wonderin, if i send in the $40 rebate from their site will they honor it??????

tha'd be tight. $46 for 80gb. whee.

what do yall think??

Finally scored. I guess the 3rd time was the charm with scanned receipts. I just took everything to the register and was able to pricematch. I did not have to lay the smack down on them (DavemanUT). I was so shocked that I decided to get 2. Not bad 2 x 73 +tax for 2 drives. Thanks everyone. Special Thanks to Cnicol and Imported for showing me the light.

DO NOT FORGET the scanned receipts that is key. Print out all of them. The chick did not even call anyone (compusa, manager, nothing) since I had the proof right in her face.

So what is the best way to do this? I see that the rebate is compusa only. If they hesitate should I bring that up or what? Also has anyone tried this at Best Buy?

as of right now, today is the last day to get your grubby hands on this potential deal. I got mine w/o a problem. I played dumb and just showed the printout of the ad. They gave it to me 79.99 straight up. Print out the MIR posted earier, and you get a new 80GB for 39.99!!! I'm sending out my MIR today.... after I wake up that is.......

ragazzo the rebate is compusa only I believe. Most compusas are no longer letting people take the drive for $79.99.

I'm hoping that Circuit City will offer rebates on this somewhere within the next 30 days. The last time something like this happened, they just gave me the rebate up front.

Best i can tell this is the current status:

CompUSA has the drive 139.99 then $40 MIR. CC will not pm against a MIR will they?

Roncarter, only if you buy it from CUSA. I don't think you can get it there anymore for 79.99. You would have to have gotten there like Sunday or maybe even Monday.

WOOOO HOOOO!!

I finally got in on one of these hot deals. Needed more HD space badly and thought i would at least try to get CC to price match and if not probably buy it and wait on the rebate. Anyway I decided to head over to CC last night and it was like 10 til nine so they were all getting ready to go home, probably helped me. Picked up the last WD 80SE they had and headed for the front. Cashier said no prob called over some guy, manager maybe, and he looked at the ad, asked "whats this after savings thing?". I told him that the internet price right now was $99.99 but if you went in the store it was $79.99 --Totally true staement and he goes OK. Then when the manager leaves that cashier says that a guy that works there just did the exact same deal.

Last Night was the best! I love getting stuff for what I ought to pay for it instead of paying for everyone else's posh lifestyle!

Alright guys, so far, Best Buy has Western Digital 80GB including 40 bucks in rebates. I'm gonna try and PM this tomorrow so my drive will be around 40 bucks with no rebates!!!20

EDIT:It looks like this is a different model #.

I went in CC and showed one of the sales people the internet page. I told him there was a rebate but it was only for drives bought at compusa(which is true) He went over to one of the managers. The guy looked at it and the salesperson said it was the same one. He said ok and put his code in the computer. That was it! I figured it was time to get rid of my IBM 45 gig drive before it quit on me. There are so many people that have problems with them. Maybe I can get about $40 for my IBM 45 gig hd?

manager quote when I tried to purchase these drives "Son of a b*tch, your robbing us blind" thats what he said as he put the three drives in my bag for $73.99 each haha. Highly recommend the brookfield CC in Wisconsin. Great help not much fooling around, under 10 minutes in the store to get this deal!
