I scored 2 drives on Monday night in Indianapolis with no problems. Since I have the receipt now if CC won't give me the drives again for that price then I will just go to BB or somewhere else and they would have to PM I would think.

Great deal!

Went to CompUSA yesterday (Columbia MD) and tried to get a drive for $79.99. It was advertised as that w/out rebate, thats what I wanted it for. First, they had them ALL behind the counter of the Service Desk. The only reason I even SAW them was the service guy wasn't helping me and I was wandering around near the counter waiting for him. He gets it and goes to ring it up - I whip out my trusty ad and tell him I have this from online. He, of course, says they don't do online ads. I tell him "No, this is for your store. Read it.". He replies "That's from last week.". So, I direct him to page 3 where it says the dates. He then gets a manager and asks him. He comes back over and throws the rebate line at me and I point out that it says NOTHING about a rebate. He says ok and goes to ring me up. I was thrilled...

Until he asks me for 150$ for the drive. My jaw actually dropped to the floor I think. I was like "Uhm, $79.99. Remember, the ad?" and he goes "Oh yes, there's a rebate.". And he rings over to OTHER desk (Cust. Non-Service) and whispers something to them and goes "Yup, theres a rebate for it.". By this point I realized I was not getting the drive for $80 w/out any rebates. I told him forget it and walked out - then realized the rebate was for $40 and wanted to see what the manager would say to me when Ibrought that up. So I go back in and notice there is NO rebate on the wall. The manager (and let me tell you, if it was any NORMAL looking person I would have argued...but this is the first time I can honestly say someone looked...stupid....just plain...not worth the breath) goes 'Oh, the WD rebate. We are printing it out now.'. He hands it to me and walks away.

Realizing there was not a chance in hell they were going to give me the drive w/out the rebate being involved I just left, I wasn't in the mood to argue and the only real reason I wanted the deal was because it was so cheap (Grad. Student priced :) )

Hopefully another deal comes up soon w/a 1$ a gig deal that isn't such a bitch w/a good rebate company.

Yup, I tried it yesterday after work and when i got there I remembered why i don't shop at CrapUSA anymore. If they had a single remotely intelligent person there, they were nowhere to be seen.

I walked in, checked for availability, there were probably 40 of the drives on the shelves and the reqular price sticlker was in place for $139.

I grabbed a couple drives and went to the register, cashier goes to ring me up, they come up as $119. I mention the ad and whipped it out showing a price of $79.99 *after savings. She goes, maybe there is a rebate on it, lemme check. B4 she can leave I show her the ad again pointing out the fact that everything on there that has a rebate has the caption *after savings and rebates. She notices it and agrees, tells me that she's sure they'll take care of it for me.

Over comes assistant manager chick. As she was walking towards me I got this bad feeling like she hated men in general and that she wasn't going to help me. My instincts are quite good. She comes over and makes me aware that there is a mail in rebate for the drives. It's for $40 and she'll be happy to get them for me. I go thru the whole thing again. She gives me crap. I tire of stupidity. I ask to speak to the "real" manager because I'm done trying to reason with the pretend manager.

Enter Mr. Crusty Pasty Old guy who looks and smells like he hasn't washed (or even brushed) his hair in weeks. I go over my beef and mention the fact that the $40 mail in rebate would be fine and dandy but I have outstanding rebates with their crappy 3rd party company that handles the rebates. He says there is nothing that they can do about it. Then I ask if I can get the rebates on multiple drives. (I already knew the answer). The guy told me YES! LOL I asked him if he was sure, and told him I didn't want to end up with trouble over it. He said, yes, rebate on each drive. Then i go right to the line that mentions one rebate per custome/address. Instead of selling me one drive at the $119 plus mail in rebate and then giving me the 2nd for $79, he says "Oh, I guess you're right, only 1 then." I was appauled.

I was actually going to buy 4 drives, but I walked away with nothing but frustration. He used the disclaimers in the ad's legal section to get by stating that the asterisk meant that it could be a instant savings or a mail in rebate. I should have known there was a reason for there being so many drives still on the shelves. Chalk that one up to being my last crapUSA shopping visit.

Man Have I got a story.

Today i went to my 3rd circuit city.

I walked in, got the drive, went to checkout. Some noobie kid who didnt know what the heck he was doin. I show him everything, he says Ooooooooook, let me talk to my mananger, i cant do price matches. So he goes to his manager, and comes back and tells me "My manager said 'No'".

So i say Just 'No'? No reason, and he says yes. So i ask to talk to his manager, he dissappears for about 5 minutes then comes in the manager. I point out everything to him, and he says interesting. He called up another circuit city and they said they did it. So he tries to pricematch the drive, but the cojmputer will only lower the price to 122.22 for some reason. I watched him do it like 4 times, and thats all it would do. So he goes to get the GENERAL Manager. The punk kid comes back and tells me, the general manager said no. And i say to him.. Just No? no reason? He says yes. So i say i want to talk to him. So i walk up to the front of the store to talk to the general manager.(he was either the general manager, or the manager and his name was GENERAL). He says I dont want to and I wont do this.

I point out the several circuit cities that have and he checks with their stock and sees that they did sell them at that price. He still says no. I tell him to call compusa and verify. He does(meanwhile the noobie kid is checking the website), and the compusa tells him the price on the drive is 139.99 no rebates. I am like.. wtf? I say I know its atleast 119.99 for sure, he says no, I say call again, he says no, i say you talked to some new person, he says whatever and calls again. He then asks for the store manager, the store manager tells him 139.99 no rebates. I officially hate c0ckusa. SO i sat there for 30 more minutes talking and talking and he finally said, alright, ill give you the 40$ off. So i say ok, so it should be 79.99 then minus the 110%? he says no, only 40 off total, 99.99$, i say what about the 20 INstant Rebate, you honor instant rebates, he says he called twice and sees no evidence of it. So i buy the drive for 95.XX and he says that he will honor the 20$ if i bring proof from that store that it exists.

I go to the compusa, they have no ads left. I talk to a front end manager and say that i was just at circuit city and the general manager called the manager here and that manager told him there was no 20 IR on this drive. He says no call was ever recieved by any of the employees. So in my imagine world i slap him around a bunch with my dong. Next i say, well since there is a 20$ IR can i get written proof that there is. He writes it down on the ad i had, leaves his name and number.

I still have 1 more circuit city near me to try, and im going to that other one fo see if they will honor the additional 20$ off. If not, ill get my 103.80 back. I wanted to get 2 of the drives, looks like its not going to happen.

If someone knows they can get the deal to work, I will pay that person 90 shipped for each drive. Paypal or MO.

God hates me

I'm sorry you gents had such a problem with CrapUSA......here's something to inspire everyone:

I printed the ad and CC receipt, walked into CC, grabbed a drive, headed to cashier. I told the gentleman I'd like to pricematch, and showed him the ad. Here's why I'm dragging you guys through the steps....HE ASKED IF THEY OR WESTERN-DIGITAL HAD A REBATE. I stated (honestly), "Not to my knowledge." He leaves to clarify with the Manager, who both go to the DSL kiosk to verify the deal. He comes back and proceeds to ring the drive up at $73.99, just as in the original poster's experience.

The key appears to be the rebate....if there was as similar rebate (CC or W-D), they could only pricematch to the discounted store price. SO ARM THYSELVES with the ad and the receipt in the original post (They never saw the receipt....but it never hurts to have evidence).

I have to say the varied response from the different store managers particularily for CompUSA is amazing..guy here in Melbourne was very nice and fixed a bad situation because of the weekend screw up with the rebate....I can understand on PM getting a no if there is a rebate but for some to do it and others to give people such a hassle is amazing

fumbduck...you have spent so much time on this deal even if you get it will have cost you a fortune in time and aggravation....I was in a CC and figured I did not want to hassle with it...not worth $40 since there is a rebate involved..if there was not I would try my best

Just went to my local (Fresno, CA) shortCircuitCity. I grabbed one of the 5, 80GB drives they had on the shelf. I had the printed, Internet ad for CompUSA and a printout of the receipts from those that have posted them here with me.

The guy at the checkout looked at it for about 5 seconds....said he needed a manager to change prices. The manager looks at the CompUSA ad briefly, and rings it up for $79.99 and leaves. I ask the sales guy about the additional 10% for price beating, he asks his manager, and comes back saying they didn't add the 10% because they were not sure what kind of rebates etc. that CompUSA were offering! HA! Pretty weak argument BUT.....$79.99 without a MIR was good enough for me and I didn't want to attract attention.

I just got one of these last night at CU :) Heres my personal story:

Went to the store hoping they actually had some left in stock, didnt bother to call first :) Walked in, found em, there had to be 10-12 of them left, so knowing someone wasnt gonna walk in at 730pm on a wednesday night and buy all those, I stroll over to a computer w/ internet access. Go to homepage, then to weekly deals or whatever, scroll down, and sure enough, advertised as 99.99 after rebates! Not a problem though, I walk back over to the drives, and there is an employee trying to sell one to some guy, saying they are only XXX amount of dollars (I forget what he told em). I speak up and say "excuse me, but arent these still on sale for 80.00 after rebates? I see there is a $40 MIR, but wheres the other $20 in savings?" He says the other $20 is instant, so I grab one, and this guy who thought he was gonna get a drive for 130+ dollars, grabs one too :) We walk over to the counter, and the kid rings it up> 139.99 :( I'm like "excuse me, but they just told me there is a $20 dollar instant rebate on this drive" and blah blah blah, manager comes over, goes yup, types her numbers in, 125.99 at the register, and they hand me my $40 MIR sheet with COMPUsa clearly printed all over the mofo :) I was pleased as punch, so after I recieve my rebate, I'll have gotten the drive for 85.99 :)

:( They ALMOST rang it up at 79.99 + tax, and then would've given me the $40 MIR :( They said they messed up and actually ended up selling 7-8 drives at 79.99 and the person getting the $40 MIR !!!!! So some people DID get the drive for almost $40 :D

i hate my area, why do the managers have to blow so much.
I mean, THEY arent the ones losing money, CC probably isnt either, just not gaining very much.

The 2 circuit cities i have left to go to are on the wayhome from work. I hope the general manager isnt on duty and i can get someone else to give me the 20.

If not, i refund the drive, proceed to next circuit city rinse repeat. I really wanted 2 of these drives for under 180 for a raid setup i've been trying to get. I was gonna get 120's, but these are such a great deal.

ok ... did i miss something? please don't flame the hell outa me if I foul up. Anyway, I called up CC and they said the drive was $129, and the receipt that I was looking at online was probably after rebates. Now I take it that Compusa does not PM CC to $73 when the rebates are included. So how the hell are people getting CompUsa to pricematch to the $73?

Whoohoo, 2 for me. I went straight ot Circuit City and asked if they price matched to Compusa. I showed them the ad, they went to the website and verified it. Ten minutes later I walked out with two 80 gig SE Western Digitals.

It is Circuit City that does the PM, not Compusa, although Compusa might PM down to the $73.99 I walked out of the store with these in hand. Fantastic deal, thanks for the info.

WOOT MY LUCK CAME TO ME!

I went to the CC that i payed 95 at, and showed him the note that there was a 20$ IR, he gave me the 20$ and said dont even think about getting another at thise price at those store again.

So i went to the other store, showed them the receipt from the previous store. They did it without questions. Awesome.

I have a question, if I go into the store w/ the print out of the ad, I get $20 IR on the spot is that correct? Meaning w/o haggling, cuz I'll live with a $120 plus $40 rebate for this HD. TIA.

I would print the page that says it has no rebates. Then I would print the weekly ad special. Email me if you need it and I'll send you the pdf files. I saved them all as pdf files because I didn't know when I would be able to try and get this drive.

My local CC was sold out, so I just went to Fry's and got it for $129.99 - $40 Mail In.

I went to CompUSA as well, and was chatting with some old co-workers. I had them look up cost on the drives and they came in at $125 and change. They must be losing big time money if they let them fly out the door at $80.

(I don't know why I'm even bothering. I'm sure everyone who wanted IN on this deal already IS.......but anways!)

What's all this fuss about haggling? THERE'S NO NEED TO HAGGLE. This is such an easy price match. It's all there in the ad! CompUSA is selling the Western Digital 80gb Special Edition for $79.99 after savings!

Take this ad to Circuit City. They will find out the price is after rebates.....BUT THAT'S OK.
WHY? Circuit City does not have any rebates of their own to match CompUSA's with. SO this means that Circuit City MUST give you the final price of $73.99. Because

1. CC doesn't have any rebates to offer you
2. It's their policy to "PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE" + "110% of the difference"

Circuit City can not deny their own policy. It's written all over their store! They only way you will luck out is if Circuit City and CompUSA is OUT OF STOCK. (*Check your local CompUSA first if you want! And bring a print out of their availabity if you think you need it! But I doubt you will).

SO AGAIN.....in order to get in on this deal bring with you.

1. CompUSA walk-in AD showing WD 80gb SE for $79.99 until October 12

2. CompUSA detailed description of the deal showing $79 price after rebate & $20 instant for Walk-ins (Under red text)

3. Your friend's receipt showing that he got in on this deal the other day

*# 3 is just insurance. If your CSR looks like he's in a dazed, confused state of mind:confused:;)

That's it! Just walk in, and say

You: "I want to price match this hard drive I saw advertised at CompUSA. The drive I'm looking for is the Western Digital 80GB Special Edition."

[Show #1]

CSR: "Sir, we can not price match online advertisements."

You: "This is not online, this is a walk-in ad for CompUSA [you point to top of #1]"

[CSR collects himself and the both of you walk over to get the drive]

CSR "I'll have to check with my manager if we can price match this"

[in comes manager] Manger: "Sir, this CompUSA price is after rebate"

You: "Yes it is, can you price match it?"

Manger: "I'll have to check if we have a rebate for this drive"

[You wait for 5-10min till he gets back]

[Manager Comes back] Manager: "I can't find a rebate for this drive, how much did you say CompUSA is selling this again?"

You: "$79.99"

Manager: "Ok, may I see your ad again"

[You hand over the ad]

If there's any confusion at this point to how CompUSA is selling their drive for $79.99. [You hand over #2 and point to him that "under the red text walk-ins save an additional $20." Also hand over #3 and say "I also have a copy of my friend's reciept, he was able to get this price at another Circuit City the other day"]

Manger: "Ok, ok...if you come over here, my CSR will ring you up"

You to CSR: "Can I get your 110% price match guarantee with that drive"

AND YOU'RE DONE.

Breakdown:
Circuit City Price for WD800JBRTL $139.99
- Price Match of CompUSA $79.99
- 110% Guarantee
____________________________________
Comes out to $73.99 before local tax

Don't be afraid to try this out. This is a very simple price match. Don't bother with CompUSA anymore. They have figured out their mistake of not posting their rebate on Sunday and will not be trying to make up for their mistake anymore. Just take the simple route and PRICE MATCH with CIRCUIT CITY. And if you're wondering about how to get the Circuit City price of $39.99.... that's only possible *if* Cicruit City finnaly decides to put up their rebate for this drive of $40. And at which point, you go to their website and print it out and mail it with your Circuit City reciept. But this is only *if* CC decides to do this.

*Whew*

So go now, if you NEED a cheap, fast, reliable Hard Drive. (*Notice I said "NEED" no reason buying this if you don't have a use for it you COMPULSIVE SHOPPER you;) ) AND I can't believe people are settling for the $40 rebate!!! AHHHHHGGRRRHH! Fine, if you can afford it;)

Its not that good. You get "cost" or the price the store supposedly paid for it. For high margin stuff the discount kicks ass, like printer cables(Retail $30, cost <$5). Stuff like entire computers which have really small profit margins, you get shitty prices on. Everything else is in between.

Plus the fact you make a whopping $7/hr working there, kinda makes it a NOT hot deal ;)
