Firearms.

:(

Thats a big no kiddin. Thats one EXPENSIVE hobby.

The nice thing about most hobbies though is its only the upfront cost thats the real kick in the pants. Guns for exmaple. You may shell out quite a bit for a firearm, but ammo is relatively inexpensive (unless you shoot alot). Gold, you buy clubs which cost an arm and a leg but after that theres virtually no cost (Unless your a club member with high yearly fees). Scuba gear is expensive but tank refills are cheap.
The problem with hobbies is wanting more. 1 rifle isnt enough, new clubs come out, that fancy dive computer you just HAVE to have.......

You know you have a problem when you are considering adding a gun vault to your basement because you've run out of empty corners/walls to lean rifles on and it would be more cost effective than buying safes.

Dear Christ!! How many guns to you have?!?
PICS!! :D

About 45 rifles, give or take a couple, and 6 handguns.

I have a couple pics of a few of them:
Mosin-Nagants (There are a few missing from that pic though)
Enfields, Garands, Springfield

Not pictured: Mausers, SKSs, AK, FAL, CETME, K31, and a few others.

A CETME?! Bastard!! i want one!! Hows she shoot? I assume you have all the bugs worked out of it?

The only function problem I had with it was traced to a couple mags that needed cleaning. I seem to have lucked out in the Century Arms crapshoot.:D

A while back I picked up a set of unfinished wood and stained/oiled it and replaced the crap wood it came with. Looks 100% better.

Oh yea, NEVER stand to the right of a person shooting a CETME. The ejecting brass will fly a good 20 feet or so.

I stripped my road bike this weekend to convert it to a fix-gear... I'm waiting for the UPS man right now to bring me my new rear wheel... ah heck UPS takes forever, though

I've gotten into mid-fi audio early last year. Got a pair of B&W 602 S3, CD player, pre-amp, power amp, overpriced cables. Then got a couple pairs of headphones, pair of home and portable headphone amps. Total came out to $5K+. Then I spent another K for music.

I feel your pain. For a while when I was in law school, I had a $500 car and about $7K in bikes. Unfortunately both numbers have gone up considerably since . . .

That bike seems very handsomely equipped for $2400. It seems like a good value if you like the fit and ride.

Maintaing my frequent flyer status. I fly a bit for work, but not 25,000 (usually come in about 18,000-20,000). So, I look for cheap airfares with lots of miles. Will be doing a flight from Chicago to LA changing planes in Orange all in one day soon. 8,000+ miles at under 2 cents a mile.
Strange hobby huh? Once you get preferential treatment, it is hard to pass up on it.

My 91' Specialized StumpJumper has served me just fine all these years. No fancy shocks or anything....just some bar ends.

Music production is my most expensive hobby. Audio gear and software is freaking crazy expensive.

i would think cycling is pretty cheap.. just need to invest in a bike and maybe a bike rack

thats peanuts compared to hobbies like flying or horses and probably cheaper than computers or cars or something that can be constantly upgraded :)

Fortunately I'm fully bought in to my favorite hobby, hiking. I have all the gear. Now I just have to start replacing it all with better, more expensive gear! :D

The computer hobby can get pretty spendy too, and I buy a lot of books.

I need to cut all of that out though because I need to start saving for a house.

not at all.. some bikes retail over 10K$... bicycles tires can cost as much, or more than, car tires... same goes for wheels (car wheel vs bike wheelset)...

but, mostly it's all the accessories that add up sooooo quick... gloves, jerseys, cold weather gear, summer gear, tools

and lets not get into "vintage" parts

Very few hobbies are expensive all the time. Yeah, it's hard to get into yachting or auto racing without major bucks, but most other hobbies are as expensive as you make them. You can easily get into golf, cycling, computers or photography with a very small investment. Too many people make their hobbies too expensive by using cash as a substitute for talent. $5000 worth of clubs won't make you a good golfer, a $10,000 bike won't get your lard ass up that hill any easier and $25,000 worth of lenses won't take a decent picture in the hands of an idiot.

i was thinking more along the lines of, cycling CAN be a cheap hobby. thats just not the case for things like flying or yachting.
