When I go biking in the mornings (just started doing this about a week ago) I start spitting almost non stop. I can't help it. Slimey saliva just keeps building up rapidly. Loogies go flying left and right. It's pretty annoying...not to mention gross. Water/Sports drinks don't seem to help. What could be causing this and/or how can I stop it from happening?

ps also very hard to breathe afterwards :/ - I probably have asthma (surprised I spelled that right the first time =o )

You say "sports drinks don't seem to help." Do you typically drink sports drink before/during exercise? I've realized that these drinks really mess with my spit and my breathing. That's the only thing that has ever made me feel as you describe. Perhaps you eat something that induces slimey/sticky saliva beforehand?

Nah I usually just drink water while exercising.

Think I'll talk to my Doc about the asthma thing, I guess it could be related to the excess saliva in some way. I had trouble breathing like 3 hours after biking :X

I usually get this when out of shape and exercising in cold weather. Maybe not as much as you're describing, but there's definitely slimyness. It goes away after my lungs get into shape.
