Excellent resource to refute the Bible

Dedpuhl

Lifer
Last month I posted a website, The War on Faith, on the forums. Most people felt that the person who made the page was an angry little guy who was mad at the world. Well, I have found probably the BEST website that can be used to refute the Bible:

skeptics annotated bible

The creator(s) of the site take each book of the Bible and analyze everything. I don't like the navigation through the site, but there is a lot of useful information.

wow...that is so so good. now I have a weapon against my religious buddies who so avidly believe in creation and the likes.

thanks a bunch dude!

Another poorly thought out literalist fundamentalist refutation. Good if your arguing with some who reads every word as the literal voice of God, fairly useless against anyone who has thought about the subject much....

Everyone gets a different message from readin the Bible, it seems. TO understand it best, it's good to understand the culture it was written in and the perspective of the writer. Realize it's a collection of books written by different men with different perspectives about man's relationship with God and/or a group of people.

Most of the stories in the OT were recited verbally for hundreds of years before they were committed to paper. Up until the time of David as far as the historical evidence can tell. These stories cover close to 1,500 years of history....

It's all relative to the situation. It's pretty hard to follow the doctrines exactly as they were. I'd say apply the "rules" to present time.

Wait a second....i'm not christian....

"I finally decided that to protect my faith in the Bible, I'd better quit trying to read it. I think most Bible-believers find themselves in that position "

**ERRR*** Wrong. Wow, the guy who did this site is just like the last guy, and knows exactly what I think!! Glory be.

"For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten Son, so that none should perish, but have everlasting life."

Refute away, my friends... I love Jesus.

<< If you don't interpret the bible literally, exactly how is it supposed to interpreted? >>

The Words of God are not for debate and interpretation...they are for Life...🙂

I find it odd that on Sunday when church shows are on TV that they are continually spitting out verses of the bible, preaching the words of the lord, saying he loves you, etc......

BUT when someone mentions another verse, such as:

"Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."
..........Numbers 31:17 (Moses)
"Then they (the Israelites) utterly destroyed all in the city, both men and women, young and old, sheep and asses, with the edge of the sword."
..........Joshua 6:21
"Samar'ia shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open."
..........Hosea 13:16

Funny none of this stuff is mentioned during mass or sunday school. The first response is that I am interpreting the bible wrong. How can that be? From the first qoutation...After murdering a young girl's entire family before her eyes, you may kidnap her and add her to your concubines. Murder, kidnapping, and rape. The loving God. BUT WAIT...I am misinterpreting the bible.

<< I find it odd that on Sunday when church shows are on TV that they are continually spitting out verses of the bible, preaching the words of the lord, saying he loves you, etc...... >>

The Bible says in one passage ..."Judas hung himself"...and in another passage says "thou shalt do likewise".

If you are not joined to Christ....you will not be allowed to understand...🙂

We're still going over God as the righteous judge? Ok. God...is a righteous judge. In the Old Testament, God often used his people (the Jews) to execute his judgements on humanity. Every sin that is committed has a consequence, you even quoted it yourself, "because she has rebelled against her God."

Does that mean it is my place to kill people because they have rebelled against God? No, duh... It's not my place to execute judgement like God empowered the Jews to.

We talk about this stuff all the time in church. What church are you going to?

<< We'll see how smug you two are when you're BURNING IN HELL!!!! >>

Shows how much you know. Most smart people are "evil", so it probably won't be that bad of a place. I'd suggest you visit sometime, if you can't find us, we'll be the realm with electricity, air conditioning, and Windows 98. Now that I think about it.....living with Windows 98 for eternity might be torture after all. :|

I went to sunday school and church (United Methodist Chruch) for half of my life and don't remember hearing half the stuff I have read.

How truly sad, that these people feel so insecure about themselves and their convictions that they have to try to somehow refute that which other religious faithful believe. Oh well.....

Well, if you had studied the Bible before trying to say it is contradictory and absurd, you'd know that your quotes come from a time when many armies were competing for the area known as Israel or the Promised Land. The peoples were simply doing what they must to survive. It was no time to spread good will, for you'd be smashed by a dozen different civilizations in the area. And for your third quote, Samaria had broken away from the tribe of Judah, put a false king in power, sinning against God. Throughout the Old Testament you'll see the theme of the cycle of sin. Man starts breaking away from God and sins, God punishes, man repents, God forgives. Hosea prophesied that the Samarians were to be conquered by the Assyrians as punishment by God for breaking away from Him.

I can't believe people are actually satisfied with that waste of web space. Anybody who is not retarded could refute all that in an instant, if you could think without hurting yourself.

Strangely, no one has yet been able to refute the Bible.

This linked web site is a pathetic and failed attempt.

The only suggestion I have is to read the Bible for yourself and don't take anybody elses word for it.

Christianity has been made the bloodiest religion to ever exist BECAUSE of the way that people interpreted the bible. if you wish to follow it, it's your choice, but i have read enough of it's murders, rape, incest and the like that i don't care to finish it. the guy expressed what he felt, and i congradulate him for that. how many christians do you think have actually read the bible fully and studied it? i find it kind of amusing as both of my parents are christians but neither has either finished reading the thing, yet the believe in something they never read/thought about themselves. maybe people actually do read it, who knows

By very definition, faith is just that - faith. It cannot be proven nor can it be disproven. Every person has to decide for him or herself whether they choose to believe or not.

<<but i have read enough of it's murders, rape, incest and the like that i don't care to finish it>>

Perhaps you have read some then, but you must not have understood it. The murders, rape, incest, etc etc are to be read in cotext and understood for what we are supposed to learn from them. Of course, someone who chooses not to believe will not understand that, and that's fine. That's why we're all free to make up for ourselves what we want to believe....... 🙂

say what you will, but a little band of people left egypt, and it just happened that some really huge powerful empires in the east fell as they left, then they took up the best spot of land in the entire near east.

Why do atheists always have to point out all these verses on God's wrath and destruction, and then only to say, seeee God isnt so loving now is he? WTF! If you would stop being so biased and narrow minded, you would know that God is Just and Righteous. And justice requires punishment of the wicked. If your church only preachs about God loving and forgiving everyone, that is a false church and is not biblical. God does love and forgive, however, He is also punishes and pours out His wrath against the sinners. So do not mistake and believe one side only.
