Also this sounds similar to the guy who lent a computer to a girl who decided not to give it back. I don't know the outcome of that, but pretty much he was told he wouldn't have a strong case without any solid proof.

I didn't know any of this until I got with him...which by then was too late because I didn't want to leave him just because he was down in the dump. That would be messed up on my part. So I stuck it out and helped him straighten up his life -- now i am the one screwed!

in most all the court cases i read, courts would rule that you gave this dude a guy since there was no mutual inducement OR bargain for exchange

as stated above, do you have any emails or contacts where he admitted owing you? That would be a saving grace

not really. a signed contract is about your only saving grace.

really...didn't know that...seems that with all the other given info, it would be icing on the cake. Of course a contract would have been ideal...but when you put your trust in someone bad things can happen

All that and you loaned the guy $2000? Smart. I don't even know how someone like that could manage to buy a car that has a $500/month payment. Nor do I have any idea how you expected the guy to be able to pay YOU back if he couldn't even keep up with his car payments.

Can't you try something like call him, record the conversation and ask him "why won't you pay me back xxx$$$???" The only real answer he can give you is "because xxxxxxxxx" and that should be sufficient evidence.

Yes, I know...very smart move on my part. I kick myself in the arse everytime I think about it. But like I said, I am not the type to just leave whenever times are bad. Granted, he lied to me (about having a job) but when I found out all of these, I felt obligated to help him because I was his girlfriend. TRUST ME, this is nothing compared to what I've done for him...NOTHING AT ALL. and he repaid me like this. SOME PEOPLE ARE HEARTLESS!

I gave up about $80k to walk away from a situation early in life (a bit foolhardy looking back, but at they same time that was good revenge)...I had more money than brains early on.

Back in 1999 I came home to an empty apartment, no dog...found out she pulled my school loans + hid income a year to buy a new Mustang GT and a Townhouse. She did leave the ring thinking it was fake...since I was just a college student that wasn't spending big. She's on my very low priority list...if I run into her I will handle things. I am not thinking about it regularly...if I was I could just drive over there. Too make up for this during that time I just messed around a lot....having a chick answer the phone you just chatted with a bit about the situation (you are broke), then take home when your ex calls to brag says it all.

A paraphrase while in bed with this chick:

ring ring (call comes in about midnight about 2 weeks after the breakup, she didn't call regularly)

chick: *perk* need to get that?
me: no, it's my ex (already saw the caller id)
chick: the one that turned off your cell?

sufficent evidence? that does establish bargain for exchange or mutual inducement

might help your case a tad, but i dont see a favorable judgment on those grounds either but it will increase your odds

Its a hard lesson. But if he were the type of guy that would repay you, he'd probably also be the type of guy that was to proud to take money from his girlfriend to pay off his loans, especially a new girlfriend.

Being nice is overrated, sure people like you...everyone loves a sucker.

Its a hard lesson, but look at it this way...1500 isn't the end of the world, at least you didn't lose a lot more.
