My ex-girlfriend (can you guess why we broke up?) wrote about $3000 in bad checks on our joint account over the period of a month or two. Not surprisingly, the account was closed.
Although written on our joint account, all checks were signed and passed by the ex. The good news is the bank, affected business and now the State Attorney's office are all going after the ex-girlfriend. As of today, I have not received a single threatening letter or collections call. The bad news? I am now forced to do all my purchases in cash. Just try that some time!
Given that I have lost my credit card, debit card and checking account; how do I go about getting another account? Will I ever bank again?
Currently it looks like I will be denied an account, regardless of where I go until the matter is settled. And by settled, they mean everyone is payed off.
As I don't really plan on paying off the ex's felonious check kiting spree, what are my options? Should I take her to court?
