Evolution...

Just curious... I do believe in it because I see proof in lots of proof in nature.. any NON believers? I'd like to hear your side of it 🙂

i dont mean to be rude but stating that you "see proof in lots of proof in nature" may not exactly crystalize what you are trying to say.

that said, im a faithful believer in evolution.
ha ha!
im hilarious!

I believe that the Theory of Evolution is currently the best model we have for describing how things happen, but that future evidence could partially or completely change it.

Yes but that doesn't necessarily discount the theory of evolution. A creator could also have given His/Her creations the ability evolve. I am being vague in my original post because I just want to see what other people have to say... not spew my own beliefs 🙂

I dont see any proof of it.

You have the bones of extinct animals. That only proves that some species is now extinct and no longer on the earth. We have seen many species either teeter on the edge of extinction or become completely extinct. However, that does not mean anything has evolved into another species.

I beleive that some animals may be going through something like natural selection. Basically some animals with better charcteristics may be more adept at surviving when changes or harsh conditions of their existing environment change or get worse. Naturally these animals are the ones to add their unique genetic pattern on to the next generation. We breed animals for certain types of activities or for a food source. Horses have many breeds which we may call sub-species. However, we often cross breed horses in an attempt to arrive at a new breed or try to breed horses for a desired characteristic, like herding cattle, pulling wagons, miniatures, strength, tolerance to heat or cold, etc. I dont look at this activity as evolution. The horse is still a horse.

I think we may be able to become more adept at how we study the origins of life and this may bring to life new methods to study where exactly life originated and how life changes through time. I am open to ideas but I see no concrete proof of evolution. It is a giant leep of logic with no basis for a scientific conclusion.

I studied statistics at school and I know better than to assume what some pattern may appear to indicate. Often we dont find what we are looking for because there is no direct correlation between two events because some outside events are the cause of the outcome. Even our technologies for dating material can not be trusted. I think they are flawed.

Isn't it obvious that evolution's is happening all around us,

it happens not just to living things, but also to man-made edifices, including how these things changes over times:

A city developed from a small prairie town --> Chicago

The world's only superpower, which originated when a small British Colony successfully rebelled and successfully gained independence from the British Empire.

How Christianity and Islam essentially sprung from Judaism

Then Catholicism begets Protestanism

And so many various sects/denominations sprung from a few early branches of the Protestant movement.

I assumed (which I suppose is always a bad thing to do) that we were talking about the Theory as the Fact isn't really in contention.

Seriously man if you want to know what the minority of people on AT think about evolution, just try asking the vast majority of the rest of the world.

This place is not somewhere for a serious thinker to find non-biased information on religion, evolution, politics, etc.

Read a book, I guarantee you'll get more out of it.

If the Fact isn't really in contention, then there'd be no need to fear the Theory so much.

Or maybe several books to get most people with no background in either, confused:

The Talmud

The Bible

The Koran

Dao De Jing

The Descent of Man

Books by Cavalli-Sforza

Results from the Human Genome Project

That is what evolution is all about. Natural selection leads to change. It does not mean anything more than the idea that variations survive in a local population if they are suited to the enviornment they are in. If that suitability is sufficiently greater than than others in the group, the new version becomes dominant in numbers, sometimes to the point of excluding others.

You mentioned horses. There are many species of horse. Species is merely a way of designating that there is sufficient difference between 2 groups that they can be considered distinct. If the differences become even greater over time, at a certain point, a group will be classed as a different genus.

Evolution does not mean a progression to "more complicated", or even superior or better in any sense other than suitability to enviornment.

What made science great's that it is honest enough to admit that the knowledge that we now have is only a drop in the ocean,

And that its hypotheses and theories can be modified if and when new proof can be found.

i believe that you are all figments of my imagination so whatever i do has absolutely no repercussion because none of you really exist.

Ignorant Q...You need to be more discriptive in your question or at least understand the terms of the debate.

Evolution is a pure unmitgated fact we can prove. Evolution is simply the change in the gene pool of a population. Evolution is not a hierarchy where "lower" creatures evolve into "higher".

The theory of evolution is not the same thing as evolution. The theory of evolution consists of three parts:

1. Organisms living on planet earth are related by common descent.
2. Description of the history of evolution.
3. Describing and understanding the mechanisms of 2.

Number 1 is a fact, just like the earth is round or matter consists of atoms, when we scientists use the word "fact", we do not mean "everlasting unchangeable truth", the bible is much better suited for that, we mean proven beyond reasonable doubt as so far not falsified. Number 2 and 3 are thoeries still very much under construction and debated.
