I have recently uncovered a strange an perplexing situation regarding the EVGA GTX 970 SSC video cards.
First off I have noticed a plethora of problems pertaining to this card including coil whine, poor cooling, bad power phase, bad PCBs, stuttering frames, etc. I myself have one of these cards and when I
went to NCIX.com where I bought it to investigate the possibility of major complaints I was surprised to see that the item was already listed as no longer available. This is strange for a video card that has
only been on the market for such a short while. All the other models of the EVGA GTX 970 and 980 cards are still listed everywhere still available. Some are either back-ordered or pre-ordered, but they are
still all listed for sale, unlike the GTX 970 SSC. This card has all but vanished from major retailers.
That wasn't the only place where these cards seem to have been removed from the market. It also couldn't be found at newegg.ca, tigerdirect.ca, canadacomputers.com as well as the American counterparts of
these companies.
I spoke to an EVGA rep on the phone who swore he knew nothing about this and indicated the card may be temporarily out of stock. That does nothing to explain why all other cards are also in short supply but
are still being offered as a back-order or pre-order where as this one isn't even being offered for sale.
I've been building computers for 16 years and I've been lied to before by manufacturers who wanted to keep a lid on their shoddy products. This is nothing new.
I believe this could warrant a closer look and by telling people this I'm hoping someone could look into this particular issue and maybe make some inquiries into exacly why this particular card had
vanished.I look to this site often to make an informed purchases and to solve problems amd I understand that many people know the intricacies of video cards and their pros, cons, and details of various
features and functions.
There may be many people out there who ended up buying poorly made video cards with possible manufacturing defects and problems. A simple search on various American and Canadian retail stores will reveal
the truth of what I am saying. This particular card is almost all but dissappeared.
I'm waiting to hear back from another EVGA support person as well as NCIX but after that I'm going to post on the EVGA forum to inform others about this weird situation but I realize that this forum could
inform many more people about potential problems than I can what with the scope of this websites large readership as well as being a very reliable source for technical information regarding all things
computers.
There may be serious issues with these cards that are not being spoken of and certainly not indicated by the manufacturer EVGA.
I'm hoping this is not the case and thousands of people have been sold a defective product which could be a virtual ticking time bomb.I'm also hoping someone could look into this situation and shed a little
light on what is actually happened to thes cards.
