If there is anyone here who owns a eVGA 7800 GT CO SLI setup and is playing Call of Duty 2, could you please tell me how the performance is when running the game maxed out at 1280 x 800 2X Bilinear with V-Sync on? I would suspect it would remain around 40-60 fps almost throughout a whole level, but I'm not sure.

Download FRAPS. There is also a command prompt in the game to show the FPS on the top-right corner during gameplay but I do not know how to access it.

It still falls into the mid-30s in some areas at 1280x960 with no AA. I just use the DX7 mode, which doesn't look much worse than DX9 but gives around 5x the framerate.

Hmm.... I dont know about that one.

I beat almost the entire game on SLI and I never saw it go below 38 fps (in game counter). This is with all the settings maxed 1280x1024 4x/16x AA/AF.

average was between 45-55.

Make sure you have the "Optimize for SLI" option to "Yes". My COD2 had a nasty habit of turning this option to "off" every time I started the game. It's good for at least 5 fps, maybe 10.

EDIT: And that was on my Venice 3000+ @ 2.7GHZ. I havent even bothered to try it now that I have dual core.

It's nice. Things are smoother. I dont know that I would spend the $400 if I had to do it all over again though.

Well, I´ve played the whole COD2 campaign with only one 7800GT @ 475/1140 Mhz stable all time and with all details to the Maximum at 1280x1024 with 4XAA and 8XAF, without Vsync on, and framerates hardly ever went down 25fps, the average was 40fps.

I think what's killing you is the Vsync on, turn it off, it will be much faster and also, turn the Directx9 on please, don't be a fool..:p

Yeah. I do think what's killing you is the the V-sync on, turn it off and try!
Good Luck!
V-sync always makes the fps to dramatically drop down!!

I´ll write a guide today to modify the 7800GT Bioses stock speeds and fan speed in an easy way, the guide will also include the Bios 1.5 volt mod too.
Hope you enjoy it!!
Have a nice day guys!!

I hate this! Is there anyway to keep it on?

I played through COD2 with my setup @ 1600x1200 2xAA and options on high and it stayed consistently in the 40's and low 50's. Certain parts of the game would drop in framerate due to heavy smoke but overall it was smooth throughout.

The reason the OP might want Vsync on is from the tearing that SLI presents sometimes, especially with an LCD monitor. That was one of the main reasons I sold my 7800GTs.

OP- If that's not the reason for enabling V-sync, than turn it off like others have suggested. Do you currently have this setup or are you merely doing some preliminary research before you buy?

hmm, I didn't notice that, looks like the SLI thing is turning itself off for me too. Although I would still probably find the framerate too low for my liking. It seems to just inexplicably tank in some areas in DX9 mode, even at low resolutions.

Vsync is pretty much required IMO with SLI in this game, as there seems to be quite a lot of tearing otherwise. I use DXTweaker to turn on triple buffering along with it.

QFT.

I don't notice any tearing with Vsync off so you can go ahead and turn it off. And with 4xAA/16xAF I did get around 40fps. Even in graphically intense areas it couldn't have gotten below 30 which isn't really THAT noticable. If you have SLI'd 7800GT's then your almost garunteeded to be able to run it at 4xAA and 8x/16xAF.

I would think you'd have no problem with 7800GT SLI playing @ 1280x1024, 4xAA/16xAF. Me, I'm playing it just as it looks with max settings on PC + 2x AA on my Xbox 360.

My second computer is an Opty @ 2.9 with an eVga 7800GT OC on a 19" Samsung LCD and my primary is an X2 @ 2.5 with an eVga 7800GT OC on a 20" Dell 2005. I will say that my X2 seems much smoother then the Opty and this is while running a much higher res...must be something there.

I havent really had the problem of screen tearing.

The only game I have had a problem with tearing is Doom 3. That's also cause I get 120 fps in timedemo 1 1280x1024 settings maxed 4x/16 AA/AF. Turning V-Sync on gets rid of the problem and fps are still in the 100's.

I havent even had to use VSYNC in DX games.
