Wait until the mfg's each start making their own boards, and using their own component choices - then we will start to see the true horror-stories of poor 2D quality. Hopefully that won't happen, what with these cards now costing two arms, a leg, and an additional ankle.

you forgot your soul

If that's the case, yet another reason to choose ATI over NVidia. 😛 Better tell Rollo that.

just wanted to point out that the comments from everyone running dvi lcds don't really count as the problem with image quality is in the anolog signal from the cards.

oh ya, and personaly i would hold out for a leadtek, they really don't mess around when it comes to image quality unlike most nvidia card manufatures who are hit and miss at best.

Edit; Spelling 🙁

Thats a bold statement, Leadtek and MSI were at the top last generation 🙂

we need a results button.

I should clarify that the problem I'm having with 2D image quality is strictly on the analog output when connected to an LCD. The 2D over the DVI connection is fine.

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be returning the eVGA 6800 for something else although I don't know what yet. Ideally I'd like to have dual DVI in a 6800NU or GT but I don't think that exists.

Anyone have a 6800NU or GT hooked up to an LCD by way of the analog port and have good text quality?

My GT's analog on my LCD is waaaay better than my 9800Pros, but I doubt it's the greatest money can buy.

Great 2D with my eVGA 6800GT on my CRT at 1600x1200. The colors are more vibrant than they were with my BFG FX 5900. Very pleased.

Just got my card installed yesterday and the 2D is as good as my 9800 Pro was. Just thought I would add my comment.

I haven't had time to troubleshoot the vga output yet.

Somebody said that that doesn't qualify as an issue? Well, I think you're full of it. I paid for two outs, I expect to get two outs that work reasonably well, be they dvi, or vga, thank you very much. The vga out is bad enough that I refuse to read text on that display, that is how bad it is...

I'll be replacing it with a dual-dvi board if I can't fix it. I've had dvi+vga boards that drove both monitors without blurry text on the vga port, so I know it is possible to go that route too.

let's bump this and ask another question in place of this also.

Peopl using DVI output, is your screen crisp and clear?

A friend of mine said its on teh dvi output where it seems fuzzy on his lcd's. He's worried because of it.

EDITED: I had it backwards guys....my bad. He has both hooked up DVI/Analogue. His Analogue signal seems fuzzy when the DVI is crisp and clear.

That friend isn't me, right? 'cause it's perfectly crisp on the DVI on one LCD but on the other LCD that is hooked up via VGA it's night and day different.

I'm of the same opinion. For a ~$300 card I expect the VGA output to at least stack up to the MSI 4400 I replaced it with. I'd prefer to have a dual DVI card but I just don't want to spend the money on an Ultra. Ideally I'd like to find a dual DVI GT somewhere.

as the 6800 cards are reference design, i can't honestly see why the 2d would suck, especially on just one brand.. i am sure it's probably fine on the 6800 cards, especially seeing as most people say it is 😛

Well, I have heard from numerous people that nvidia is producing the entire first run of NV40's for all of its partners. When the companies start to produce their own 6800 boards, that will be the time when we start to see discrepencies between OEM cards. eVGA was chosen for this poll because their IQ was notoriously bad on the 5xxx series. I want to keep an eye on them this round to see if they get cheap on us and their IQ goes downhill again.

On a pair of CRTs I doubt you would notice a difference and I'm sure it looks OK. However, on a pair of LCDs the IQ on the analog connection is most decidedly sub-par. I'm in agreement with eastvillager, I can't bring myself to read text on my second display.

Besides, reference doesnt mean they are made the exact same....they just use the same "reference". They can use different parts and material to make it cheaper if they wanted to.

I have the eVGA 6800GT with a Samsung 710T lcd, the 2d is fine, I see nothing wrong with it. The 3d is perfect also. I am surprised at how quiet the card is, I thought the reference design might be loud.

Are you using the analogue connection or DVI?

I am using the DVI now. At first I had to use analog connection because I just built this computer and needed drivers for the DVI to work.

I see that some of you are having problems with the analog. I had no problems at all when I used it. I am using the 61.76 drivers. I have found that cleartype helps some.

I've decided to return my eVGA 6800 NU and exchange it for the XFX 6800NU that -just- showed up on newegg this evening. It appears that the 6800NU has dual dvi which I know I'll be happy with.

For anyone with two digital displays I recommend staying away from the eVGA 6800NU, the VGA output is unacceptable when put next to the DVI.

XFX 6800NU @ Newegg

i just might have to return my 6800nu. the image quality is noticeably worst than the 9800 pro it replaced. so sad =(

I have an eVGA 6800 and the very first thing I noticed was that the text on my monitor is difficult to read, which was no problem before with my old MX440. My monitor is a Sony G400 running at 1600x1200@75hz

I tried the DVI-VGA adapter and it looked exactly the same.

Those of you who are running at anything less than 1600x1200 will probably not notice any problems. 1280x1024 looked totally fine for me, but that's not the normal desktop res I run, so this is a problem.

Has anyone returned their eVGA card for this reason and picked up a different manufacturer's? I'd like to return mine while I still can (have 2 weeks left) but I want to make sure I don't pick up another card with the same problem. I was thinking about MSI, as my old MX440 was made by them and looked great at that res.
