eVGA 6800 any flavor owners. How is your 2D? Poll

Looking to buy one as a gift for a birthday. I have owned 2 eVGA 5xxx series and they both had terrible 2D. Has eVGA improved with the 6800 series? 6800/GT/U/UE?

Thanks.

LOL, I had 2 eVGA cards. A 5600U rev.2 and a 5900nu. Both had the worst 2D I have ever seen on a video card. I sold the 5600U and tried to RMA the 5900nu. When I got the RMA'd 5900 back, it was just as bad as the one I RMA'd in. And the serial # was different so I know it was a new card. The 2D was blurry, and nothing I did could fix it. Drivers, different monitors, nothing. I wanted to know how the 6800 series were from current owners. Whether they are very good? Or is eVGA still using crap 2D components on their cards as I suspect that was the case with the 5xxx series.

My eVGA 6800 standard has excellent 2D. I run my desktop at 1600x1200@85Hz on my Mitsu CRT. It's not crisp at 2056x1536 on the desktop, but Q3A looks great at that resolution🙂

Hopefully more people will let us know, since I'm sure there are numerous people monitoring this thread. Let us know!! 😉

My cards not a eVGA but my PNY 6800 GT's 2D looks great. Comparable to my old 9500 Pro.

EDIT: I didn't vote in poll incase your wondering.

Hi Safeway... me too. I will be installing my GT when I get home. I'm upgrading from an ATI 8500 DV 64 Mb so.. I imagine it would be much better 2d & 3d?

Consider that all of the recently-released 6800/6800GT cards, were all "built by NVidia" reference designs, they should all have similar 2D quality. Wait until the mfg's each start making their own boards, and using their own component choices - then we will start to see the true horror-stories of poor 2D quality. Hopefully that won't happen, what with these cards now costing two arms, a leg, and an additional ankle.

The 2d on the dvi port to a dvi panel is excellent. I'm having issues with the vga port going to a second panel, though. I'm going to swap the monitors, test, swap the cables, test, etc., make sure that the issue is actually the vga output from the card and not the panel or the cable.

On the 2nd panel, text almost looks like it has a shadow behind it.

I have mine up and running now at 400/1100, and the 2d is better than my Leadtek 5900 Ultra was. Nice card in my opinion.

Edit; Spelling 🙁

I have a eVGA 6800ultra up and running in my rig. The 2d is fine. It looks just as good if not better than my old 9700pro.

Ok, we have one vote on the complete opposite side of the coin, but no comment or description. Guys, if your going to vote, please explain what trouble you are having in detail. This poll is to help me as well as everyone else interested in these eVGA cards.

-Thanks.

I think you got a random idiot to vote negatively for fun if I had to guess. So far it sounds like they have great quality 2D and that is great news since my card will be here Monday.

Definately a possibility considering there was no comment. Thats great about you getting your card. I hope PCI-E 6800's are available soon as I want that for myself.

I'm seeing the same thing with my eVGA 6800 hooked up to two Dell 1800FP's. My previous card was a MSI Ti4400 and the difference in 2D quality on the analog vs DVI connection was very close with almost no discernable difference.

I'm not sure if there is maybe just a timing problem or if it's a 2D IQ issue. When I first hooked my 1800FP up to the analog connection on my 4400 I had a similar problem until I straightened out a driver issue with the flat panel itself. That same issue doesn't appear to be the problem now but I'm not 100% sure.

Have you made any progress investigating the issue?

I went from a Leadtek ti4400 to the evga 6800 and I have to say I was not impressed with the 2D. The second I booted I noticed the text looked pretty blurry, as if I were running Cleartype on a CRT. The Color Correction->Image Sharping of the Nvidia drivers helped a bit but overall I am let down.

Poor 2D quality was the reason I returned an eVGA GF FX 5700U (DDR3) to BB. It was unpleasant to read text with that card.

I hope the 6800 family of cards doesn't have the same problem.

My BFG GT DVI 2D IQ is fantastic. I didn't realize how good until my true330 died last night and I had to switch to this boxen with A7N266-VM with DVI, TV OUT adapter card. The DVI 2D looks like crap by comparison. I think my GT added too much strain on my 2yr+ PSU and caused it to bonk. Good excuse for me to buy the true430 for $68 shipped 🙂
