Chris Bangle is known for his eccentricity when it comes to designing cars....

In all fairness, he also designed the current 3-series (though I get the sense he has been a prolific LSD/PCP/psychedelic mushroom smoothie consumer since then).

Taken from the Video section of the New 3 preview section on BMW's site:

Watch the all new 3 Series in motion. iDrive optional. European model shown.

The design of the new 3 Series is at once bold, dynamic and elegant. iDrive optional. European model shown.

Groundbreaking six-cylinder with light-weight magnesium crankcase. iDrive optional. European model shown.

More spacious and more luxurious for drivers and passengers alike. iDrive optional. European model shown.

You think they are trying to emphasize that something is optional?

Yeah, I noticed that. My fear, though, is that iDrive will be a mandatory part of an otherwise-appealing options package (most likely the current Premium package), making it hard to skip unless you want a relatively stripped car. We shall see . . .

seeing how idrive became the pitfall of the seven series and even some 5 series owners are complaining of computer glicthes, they damn well better make sure that the 3, which accounts for more than 50% of their sales has it optional.

what the hell? the turbocharged 330Ti would be 240hp? even assuming it probably will have more torque, it still has less hp than a standard 330???? dude, the old E36 M3 US SPEC has 240hp... I assume that's a typo right? it better be 340hp...

and it shares platform with the 1 series? so i would actually get a better deal with a 1-series assuming it is cheaper and handles the same?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I assume it's a typo, since the NA 330i has 255 bhp. As for your second question, it's my understanding the 1 series will be pretty small cars, regardless of whether they share the same platform. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

New3

in that video the front turn signals are clear and it makes the front look so much better than the yellow
and i like the front looks angry

i will wait for the 4-series 😀

I would say that it looks like a Toyota from the back but I wouldn't want to insult Toyota like that.

Insult? That would be a compliment for Toyota and an insult to BMW.

CD.
Back looks like crap.
Back looks like Toyota.
Toyota = crap.
He doesn't want to say that Toyota = crap.

Doesn't look bad.

That'll probably be my next car unless the new IS300 is better.

Well said!!

Blame it on the wifey 🙂

I'd be happy with the hybrid Accord or the tC.

Trade her in for a new, less demanding model...

I'm underwater on my trade in. 🙂

Earlier plans to abandon the traditional naming policy and give upcoming two-doors a 4 Series nomenclature have been torpedoed by marketers.
Torpedoed... Does that mean BMW isn't going with it? Or does it just mean marketers really friggin' hate it.

You guys suck. Best BMW other than the 7 series. Before all the 3's looked like a sisters car.

Front's OK but the tailights piss me the fvck off. In my opinion they should have stayed with the L lights as their rear-end trademark, like the kidneys up front. Who knows though, it will probably grow on me. I hated the Z4 when it came out, but now I think it's an awesome design. I hated the 745 when it came out (I remember saying "who would ever buy that thing") and now there's one sitting in the garage...so who knows...

Any news on a 330xi? My dad was looking at one of those. No spare tire is ridiculous.

Buy now...while they still sell the e46. The current 330xi is awesome, in my opinion.
