Everything needs to be voluntary, especially education.

A UNESCO study said that when child labor was outlawed in some countries Clinton signed into law an embargo against the children who were formerly employed were worse off (like getting murdering or getting murdered and starving).

The tax payer is paying crazy amounts to send mostly people who aren't going to graduate to school. The cost of public education is ridiculous when people can just learn from the internet. In addition to all that, some people won't need education for the opposite reason. That opposite reason is that they're too smart and/or they're safer at home.

Further, most of the stuff I learned was not from the public education system, rather some of it was from College and the vast majority from the internet or from observations in every day life. Education cannot increase your IQ, so it's not really necessary. There is a correlation between IQ and occupation anyway.

Final point, is that the school system is indoctrinating harmful shit like lies about FDR and Lincoln into the heads of young children and that helps keep the state alive.

If schools exist, then they should be completely privatized and they should not lobby for regs, not accept vouchers, etc. Private school teachers make way less money than the Public school teachers do. If the private schools were run like the public schools were and charged as much as the public school system does, they wouldn't last a whole school year.

The 1% needs to maintain the illusion that everyone has a equal chance. So for that reason we will always have public schools with their shitty unions.

Sounds like a rich wonderland. It even furthers the gap between the haves and have nots. It also allows the rich to "own" schools and further siphon money off the middle class.

Or you could setup a class room in your garage with your computer and offer to teach children for free or a lower cost. There are all sorts of possibilities why limit yourself to simply that one?

This might be your best post I've read.

And this might be your worst that I've ever read. He wants to get rid of schools so that everyone can learn from the interwebs like he does. This is a new low of stupidity even for him.

Yeah, and people can learn from blogs and twitter too! The possibilities for great education are limitless!

I don't really much agree with our public school system, it's rather miserable and a huge waste of money. We need insane educational reforms in this nation or we might as well scrap the whole thing and let it go private. I'm in favor of the going private that way EVERYONE loses out, reforms will never be passed to fix the things that are broken. Far to many people benefit.

woolfe, our educational system is a joke. it does nothing but try to perpetuate itself. where are the trade schools? why have we allowed other types of knowledge to just fall off? oh because it's not "higher learning"? yeah that's a scam. i'd rather do away with the whole fucking system. there should be no system of education, that just blows my mind that we would be ok with that. would you want to create people who are just like you? fuck no, that'd be a miserable experience if the world was full of me or you or whomever.

That's nice. I'm not. I don't want to live in the middle ages like the OP does. He can go learn everything there is to know on anarchistsareus.com. Yeah, I know public education and everything else affiliated with government is 100% failure and totally ineffective. You know how I know? I learned it on the interwebs.

Because that is how someone works their way up to the top right? With a diploma from Ms Smith's house of garage schooling from teachers who are even less qualified than our current batch of teachers.... right.

Not to mention, it's all private so no set criteria so how is anyone to know the bare minimum the students are taught? What contistutes certain grades? Worst idea ever. Oh and we all know we can't regulate private business right?

Public education in the United States is a gigantic fucking failure. We have a country by its very core isn't centralized and you try to throw centralized governing practices on top of it. That shit doesn't work. PS public education is government sponsored indoctrination. Sure all teaching is indoctrination of some form, but I'd rather it not be the government(an entity with no accountability) doing it.

btw woolfe, I must ask, you're older than me right? When did you go to school? I've talked to a LOT of people about this and the experiences of people around my age is significantly different than those who graduated 10 years, 20 years or 30 years earlier. Hell hearing my dad talk about what his high school was like made me long to go back to high school, where as ours was fucking retarded. over half your grade is dependent on work you do outside of school. how does that make sense.

Most of the teachers I have encountered are fucking retarded. I have friends who used to teach who will vouch for it, that 90% of the teachers out there are stupid and shouldn't be teaching. Themselves included and that's why they stopped. Also, who the fuck is anyone to say someone else is more qualified to teach? Oh that's right you believe them because they taught you that shit, well guess what it's just a fucking money train bud. That's all it is, they want more teachers who want more money and they will teach you shit to keep you in school to get more money. GO TO COLLEGE IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO BE SUCCESSFUL! MAKE THAT 50K A YEAR FOR 4 YEARS OF EXTRA SCHOOL! idiots, you could have gone and picked up a wrench and made 200k in the 4 years it took you to get your degree and another fucking 100k a year after that. But no our educational system is fine you're right we should just perpetuate the status quo.

I am not supporting the only way schooling should be done is on the internet in your bedroom, I'm supporting a more private system of schooling.

You misunderstood me. I never said our educational system works as it is, it NEEDS change. However, this is not the change it needs. I didn't follow the college path and am rather sucessful despite that.

We can debate reform of the public school system. I'm not going to waste my time with people who think you should learn everything from the interwebs like the OP does. He learned from the internet and he is probably the single biggest idiot on this entire board. Sorry. This is discussion is waste of time.

For an idea of just how shitty many private schools are, the one my friend taught at cost about $20k a year. They needed a new teacher and didn't have one, so they took someone who applied to be the secretary and had her teach.

Lol

sounds like you never heard of online or distance learning.

people graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees without ever setting foot in a classroom.

yes, that dream from the old comic book days about schooling from home has come true. about a decade ago as a matter of fact.

Another Rightie dials up the wayback machine to 1890 or so, based on pollyanna idealizations of the way things were & should always be.

Public education isn't a failure, at all. Obviously, it could be better, which is true for almost everything. My teenage sons & their friends can all read & write, have growing understandings of mathematics, science & the structure of govt, geography & politics. They understand art & music, as well.

The places in this country where public schools are the worst are apparently the places where the wealth divide is the greatest, where those at the top routinely send their children to private schools, and where wealth disparity across school districts is greatest.

To be fair, I don't think formal education would have made OP any less of an idiot.

My niece just graduated university of Oregon all on line in Chemistry and will be going to pharmacy school like her dad - online as well. I think you can pretty much do it all these days.

Pharmacist make $55-75 an hour depending on location and more if you own one. Not bad for useless.

If everyone learned stuff off the internet like you do we'd be one hell of a stupid race. The realitt is that an uneducated society is an in effective society and it would end up being a economic disaster. Have to teach people somehow and not having standards thar everyone should meet or know means you end up having to teach every employee to a standard for that company. Moving up in life would be impossible for many.

Pharmacy school on-line? Sounds sketch, especially when practical experience is part of the curriculum for accredited pharmacy schools in the US.

They used to send her animal brains in the mail and stuff for biology labs I'm sure they can figure it out. I'll have to ask her what school when she gets back from Korea.

While I can't speak for your niece, you will notice that I said a 'huge portion', not all. I totally stand by my earlier statement though, go check out the average online degree. Or even worse, check out the average online degree holder. It's pathetic.
