it all depends on the sect of buddhism.
they dont worship buddha. they do not bow down to buddha. they just respect him and look to him for morals

That's wrong. Clearly she hasn't learned about Buddhist history. It is most definitely a religion with its pantheon of deities and rituals and doctrine.
