Everybody upgrade to Firefox 3.6 now....

Turns out my super secure netbook (ad blocking + antivirus) got hit by a drive by virus. I was running firefox 3.5.7

I was visiting pirate bay, just browsing to see whats available. A friend of mine asked me on IM to see if there was an ISO for vista basic x32 (his laptop uses that but he cant find the bloody cd to reinstall). I just searched 'vista basic' and i didnt even click the links. I think I may have taken my mouse over one of the links, and next thing I know my antivirus (Avira) got disabled and there was 'xp guardian' saying my computer is at risk.

everybody update to 3.6. I hope 3.6 will actually fix it. For firefox to get hit by a virus or spyware so easily is just shocking. I am going to remove the stuff, but I may have to reinstall the bloody netbook because of this virus shit.

no script😛

i've not seen this happen on the pirate bay recently .....
i'm not upgrading till my damned extensions work.

btw there 3.5.8 you know

I don't think it matters what browser you're using, that virus on TPB will still get on your computer without a proper AV or adblock or Noscript. Next time, install MS security solutions. Surprisingly very good software.

malwarebytes got rid of it. It identified it as "win7antivirusguardian'

I am not worried about the scripts / extensions. most of my scripts work with 3.6 on the vista box, just disable and re-enable them, i didnt realize my netbook wasnt upto 3.6 (normally it updates automatically) and the laptop i use it a lot i wonder how come it did not update it in so long.

The thing with this is that I just installed Silverlight yesterday so I could watch netflix / hulu and stuff while working out on my treadmill. That was the last update software on it. XP updated itself this evening with a couple of windows updates. So I know that its good on that front.

seesh!

I'll pass... Chrome still has a ways to go on its adblocking extensions. The blocking of the ads after they are loaded is highly annoying... I like my pages to load as if the ads were never there to begin with.... And not look all fucked up and shit. Ugh, it's so annoying. >_<

Exactly. What is the point of blocking flash ads if they still load?

Pedantic? They load practically instantly and disappear a fraction of a second after that. Like it actually impacts the browsing experience? Hardly.

I block ads mostly because banner ads are really annoying. I hate having to scroll down because 1/4 of my browser is covered by an ad. Very annoying on my laptop. I wouldn't mind ads so much if they were just on the side of the page.
