I like Macs, but I *really* wish I could buy the one I want without things I don't need. Steve Jobs, and Apple, make a really good product, reguardless of what the bashers say. I, for one, would own a Mac, if I could buy ALL of the parts necessary to build it.
Lets all just think about what you need to do on a day to day basis for MOST computing needs:
1. Read email
2. Surf the web
3. Burn CDs
4. Listen to music
5. Play video files
6. Compose documents
7. Play games
With the items I just listed, I don't see a heavy reason why a Mac *can't* do those things! A linux box can do those things just fine as well. Add some business related things like SQL queries, etc, and they can be found on a Mac as well. Macs can do plenty of what I do on a day to day basis, the *ONLY* reason why I don't own a Mac is Steve Jobs absolute, idiotic, reasoning for not licensing out the hardware spec so people can compete with Apple's own hardware.
Sure, there are other applications and games that don't run on a Mac, but I can certainly use a PC for those until I find better titles to play or just stop playing those games.
If Steve Jobs reads this, here is my note to you:
Take your head out of your arse and license out the hardware so you can get more competition to lower the prices on Apple hardware. You are only hurting yourself by not letting other people compete against your own platform.
