Did you mean "... AOL, DSL, or cable." Or were you refering to AOL brand DSL or cable? Why would you want AOL anything anyway, and why do you think a Mac can't use DSL or cable?

Well, let's have a point by point rebuttal:

The Mac... It just works

So does my PC. Next argument please

It doesn't crash

Neither does my Linux.

Simply the best digital music

iPod is not Mac so there's no need to bring it in to the argument. Both my W2K and Linux play my digital music just fine. Also, I have been thinking about using Linux to build a mp3-server.

Missing link in digital photography

I don't do digital photograpy, but what I have seen, both Linux and W2K are "good enough for me"

Your own digital entertainment center

I can listen to music, watch movies, play games etc. etc. with my PC. Next argument please

Goes everywhere you go

Last time I checked there are lots of notebook-PC's. Next argument please

It's built for the internet

Huh? I have all the Internet I could want in my PC.

Office is Office

Ya, and I can use it just fine on my PC

Works effortlessly with PC's

Yep, so does PC's ;)

It's beautiful

If I want something that looks like a desklamp on my desk, I'll buy a desklamp, thankyouverymuch. It's also alot cheaper than those overpriced Macs are.

EDIT: spelling

I was refering to AOL branded DSL and cable. The lack of commas indicating seperation should have been your clue. People want it because it suits there needs. Same reason people use Microsoft os Linux.

OK, I'll be the whipping boy. I don't own a Mac but work made us use Mac's for many many years. I feel qualified to comment on behalf of Steve Jobs :)

The Mac... It just works

OSx is a very intuitive OS, possibly moreso than XP. The average "non-PC-power-user" will have a more simple and satisfying user experiance with OSx

It doesn't crash

Neither does my Linux.

Good point, but the majority of PC's are Wintel machines. Wintel machines historically have been bound to the "always crashing" and "BSOD" stereotypes, and Jobs wanted me to tell you guys that OSx never crashes... not even one time :)

Simply the best digital music

iPod is not Mac so there's no need to bring it in to the argument. Both my W2K and Linux play my digital music just fine. Also, I have been thinking about using Linux to build a mp3-server.

OSx has the best built in support for media playing, managing, and editing. I don't know if Steve Jobs has ever been to www.winamp.com but I agree that iTunes is pretty neat-o looking.

Missing link in digital photography

I don't do digital photograpy, but what I have seen, both Linux and W2K are "good enough for me"

OSx is just about like WinXP as far as making scanners and digital camera's and camcorders seamlessly integrate into the OS.

Your own digital entertainment center

I can listen to music, watch movies, play games etc. etc. with my PC. Next argument please

Yeah, I'm running out of lines here.

Goes everywhere you go

I will agree that the Mac laptops offer alot of features for the $ and look nice, but there are just a couple other laptops out there :)

It's built for the internet

Huh? I have all the Internet I could want in my PC.

Apple's target demographic still points at people who are frightened by new technology and intimidated by hooking things up. They have to point out how easy everything is, ala "built for the internet". Trust me, Steve Job's isn't spending alot of money trying to convince Anandtech-ers to buy Mac's.

Office is Office

Ya, and I can use it just fine on my PC

Ya, nothing to see here, please move on :)

Works effortlessly with PC's

Yep, so does PC's

But PC's don't work very well with Mac's... not that it matters, but the point Jobs tries to make is that Mac's can do both... PC's can only do PC.

It's beautiful

If I want something that looks like a desklamp on my desk, I'll buy a desklamp, thankyouverymuch. It's also alot cheaper than those overpriced Macs are.

I personally would spend quite a bit of money on a PC case engineered as well as the G4 case. Mac has always impressed me with their mechanics.

All my $0.02, as I don't own a Mac and have limited time with OSx.

One thing I will say, pre OSx crashed like a mother.

oh boy I want to have fun to :D

1. The Mac... it just works
- Well my experiences with macs consists of them crashing on a daily bases, so it doesnt work well enough for me.

2. It doesn't crash
- yes it does

3. Simply the best in digital music
- Then I guess the mac has Audioglaxy, Kazaa and all the other file sharing programs, and has hundreds of mp3 players to choose from. Well, maybe not.

4. The missing link in digital photography
- The missing link is not a mac, its money, spend $2000 on a digital camera and then you are in business. About the software, so the countless of pc based imaging programs aint good enough for the mac. They just had to make something simple idiot proof.

5. Your own digital entertainment center
- And by saying this they assume the pc doesnt have cd or dvd writers? And that pc's dont have simple movie making programs? (perhaps not as simple as imove, but at least they are not as darn limited as imovie)

6. Goes everywhere you go.
- Yes my handheld can do that also, and even my laptop (if I had one), and oh yeah, everthing they mentions, comparing MacOS10 to Win98 or worse, lets just compare WinXP to MacOS1 and tell the world that macs suck.

7. Its built for the internet
- So is the P3 ;) It takes me less then 5 minutes to set up my internet account, that includes the time digging up the phonenumber (when I had dailup) and trying to remember the password. It takes even less time now when I have adsl.

8. Office is Office
- yes smarty, those two words are exactly as long and have exactly the same letters in exactly the same order.

9. Works effortlessly with PCs
- I'm so glad Apple doesnt use crappy appletalk anymore, welcome to the real world.

10. Its beautiful
- Ok you win there :)

Can your PC laptop go coast to coast with just one battery? Can you put the system to sleep just by closing the lid? Does it wake up instantly? Can your PC laptop automatically switch between Ethernet, dial-up and wireless connections on the fly? Without a restart?

YES
YES
YES
YES
YES

and since when do macs not crash, this is new

all of you need to use OS X a little bit. Most of your opinions about the mac come from pre os X exposure. Did you know that Os X has a *nix base? For you true nerds, that should impress you. Pay attention to the Technologies not the advertising.

OS X is beautiful.

I have to say though that "OS X never crashes" is untrue. I've been using it for over a year, i've only restarted my machine less than 15 times but it has had a "kernal panic" (which is i guess a unix crash) two or three time. All in all, it is extremely stable.

You know what? The more morons (not generalizing, I'm talkin about those who have no clue about what they're doing) that use or switch to Macs, the better - that's what they should be using, it's a watered down computer (in essence, though they can be as powerful as a PC) so that people can plug, play, point&click, and thats it. It's the reason that little kids start riding bikes with training wheels :)

unix based, i woudln't call it watered down... several of the consultants where i work have switched because of the unix stuff :) more powerful than a pc if you know unix, imo.

I did love the way the Cube was designed. But we all know what happened to it... If I really want well-designed (and good-looking) case, I would go and buy a nice brushed-aluminium Lian Li case for my PC. But I just haven't had the interest to really invest in a case. As long as it has enough space, it's fine by me.

And like I said, the new iMac looks like a desklamp. If I'm going to dish out that much money, I would prefer something that doesn't look like a toy. Thanks but no thanks.
