Everquest Suicide

"Shawn was playing 12 hours a day, and he wasn't supposed to because he was epileptic, and the game would cause seizures," she said. "Probably the last eight times he had seizures were because of stints on the computer."

Well NO SH!T EH!?!? I hate retarded people - i.e. Mrs. Woolley.

She has hired an attorney who plans to sue the company in an effort to get warning labels put on the games

...and to get a $2,000,000 settlement for 'emotional distress' caused by the loss of her son to this evil, evil game.

<< Woolley knows her son had problems beyond EverQuest, and she tried to get him help by contacting a mental health program and trying to get him to live in a group home. A psychologist diagnosed him with depression and schizoid personality disorder, symptoms of which include a lack of desire for social relationships, little or no sex drive and a limited range of emotions in social settings. >>

Typical. The kid had loads of problems to begin with, but the mother must blame a computer-game! "My son killed himself. He had severe diagnosed mental-problems. But he also played this computer-game, so it's obvious that the game is to blame! The mental-problems had nothing to do with it!"

<< Parker doesn't make the narcotics analogy lightly. One client - a 21-year-old college student - stopped going to class within eight weeks after he started playing EverQuest his senior year.

After playing the game for 36 hours straight, he had a psychotic break because of sleep deprivation, Parker said.

"He thought the characters had come out of the game and were chasing him," Parker said. "He was running through his neighborhood having hallucinations. I can't think of a drug he could have taken where he would have disintegrated in 15 weeks."

<< did anybody see why he committed suicide? >>

he lost his +2 mace and the armor of agathor which has reflective powers and adds +20 to mana and increase health regenration to people killers.

he couldnt go on.

From the article:

<< ". . . Someone who lacks social skills, they could find it much easier just to play the game instead of going out to a bar." >>

Seems like the logical answer would be to add ability for people
to commit suicide in the game, so they won't have to in real life. 😉

lmao!

I wonder if she read my thread about the 30 year old man that died playing his N64 and his mom who is suing Nintendo?

Their moms decided they wouldn't be of any use to society anyway, and that they wouldn't be bringing in any money, just costing it, and so they killed their sons themselves, and are trying to get money from the companies, so their sons will give them some money after all.

Glad companies can't be sued over lame crap like that over here.

<< So since you have to pay to play, if the mom paid for it, will she get arrested for paying to have someone kill her son? >>

Now that would be cool -- DA says "OK we believe you that Sony killed him, but we've granted Sony immunity to testify against you!!"

Simply amazing, first off I don't even understand the draw towards those games, but I have seen people get totally pulled into them. But to try to sue a game company cause you are a bad parent and your son was a nut job is totally pathetic, people should be forced to take a long look in the mirror before they press charges for anything.

Why are video games so villified?

So they made a good video game. So good you dont want to stop playing. Isnt that the goal of every game designer?

My roomate plays EQ all day. Practically every time I step into our room, he's on EQ. He can be kind of a strange fellow sometimes. I wouldnt say he had a problem, its just what he likes to do.

Personally EQ was a bit too complicated for me to get into, but I did play a LOT of Diablo 2 over the summer. My problem is that I had too broad a taste in video games to play any single game for too long.

"Shawn was playing 12 hours a day, and he wasn't supposed to because he was epileptic, and the game would cause seizures," she said. "Probably the last eight times he had seizures were because of stints on the computer."

Next thing you know, we'll be suing the beaches for giving us skin cancer. Why stop there? Lets sue the ozone layer, and even the sun! Why not just sue god while we're at it?

People need to take more responsibility for their actions. Him continuing to play that game is his own fault. You dont sue jif because you cant stop eating peanut butter even though youre allergic.

I can't either. Because... you know... crack, heroine, acid, coke, meth, inhalents... none of those drugs could tear your life apart in 15 weeks

Poncherelli......
