Woot, looking forward to it, hope its what you said. So sick of carebear/f2p/crap. I'm tired of exclusives, i'm tired of preorder crap, tired of non-mmo calling themselves mmo, tired of easy mode MMO, tired of instanced mmo, etc.

I dont care so much about fp2, as long as its done right, where paying only gives you cosmetic or trivial things. Make us buy expansions and stuff but no pay to win bs.

I miss the original EQ.

Camping CT for Rubicite, camping upper/lower Guk, etc. Plane of Fear/Plane of Hate/etc.

Hated the random crap though. Camped High Priestest Mitty for 30 hours straight and never got the gold ring for paw of opalla and ended up just buying/trading for one.

Also mana stone + complete heal ftw.

Oh and the under water place in the cauldron.

manastone was the best way to powerlevel someone. Even after they nerfed it. The druid/wizard would port to the old world, collect mana as my cleric healed them, then they would go back to snare kiting baddies at level appropriate places. Then rinse, repeat, recycle.

Though, the advent of cooldown timers made that pointless. The old days of constant pulling went away and became nuke stuff down quickly, then take a break.

This will be F2P with subscriptions that grant extra perks.

That poster/wallpaper on the EQN website is hideous and a travesty to the fine artwork by the late and great Keith Parkinson. Firiona as a ranger? WoW'esque design? WTF?!?

Hopefully this is a challenging MMO where it's the journey that matters and it's not mad dash to level 50. I don't mind being level 25 for 4 months if there is plenty of content to explore.

And I'll have to agree...please no "pay to win" items in the cash shop.

Yeah the journey aspect of EQ was awesome. Feeling alone wandering the Eastern continent and making the trip to the boat was epic.

Sigh back when I was oblivious and played games to enjoy them with childlike wonder instead of scientifically dissecting and obliterating them.

The simple things like getting excited like getting a pair of shoes for your bare feet via fishing. +1 def woot!

Cautiously optimistic. This looks more WOW-esque to me rather than ES (which always reminded me of original EQ).

I greatly look forward to any MMO that does something new, different, and fresh. The only one in recent years IMO (that I played) was The Secret World, although it did copy many areas of WoW; it seems like every developer is enamored by WoW's subscription number and does everything they can to copy gameplay elements. I don't want LFD. I don't want queueing. I want exploration, journey, difficulty, and I want it to be a long satisfying process. Mindlessly level-ing while not being engaged to the game whatsoever is not fun. I want to savor the journey and level-ing process, like EQ's early days. I want a memorable levelling process that takes some time. I also don't want a game completely focused on "end" game......

SOE has repeatedly indicated that all their games are developed under a F2P model, although they all have optional subscriptions that generally unlocks the entire game (save for expansions). Hate on SOE as much as you want, but their F2P model is halfway decent -- you can experience a decent portion of the game F2P, but you really need to have a subscription to have a high-end character (at least in EQ2). The cash shop is mostly fluff and convenience items (EQ2), while in PS2 it allows you to unlock things for cash instead of using in-game currency/xp.

I don't like the re-imagined art at all. I was going to list a bunch of stuff I'd like to see but it comes down to this:
I want a fun game that allows enjoyable and challenging adventures with friends or strangers.

mmm i fail to see how Everquest can be a WoW clone when it predates WOW by 5 yrs.

2004 for WOW.
1999 for everquest

It has more to do with every and any MMO copying game systems such as LFD, LFR, etc. I am personally not in favor of such game systems, as they remove the element of socialization, exploration and participating in the world. Really, I despise the fact that WoW has boiled down to parking in Org and queuing stuff most of the time. I don't want a game that bases everything on convenience for the whiners who can only play 30 minutes a day and demand purples for their 30 minutes. Let's put the RPG and "Massive" back in MMO.

Considering how it was announced earlier this year for a release this year, we have to assume it'll be a F2P game... wouldn't be surprised if it was all browser based or even worse, on Facebook.

Low expectations. If it's too grindy and "h4rdk0re" it won't have a playerbase to sustain it and if it's too fast/easy it'll peter out too fast. Striking a balance between the two isn't easy.

Not only this, but to balance that you have to have a lot of content during leveling, and then a lot of content at max level to keep those at max level interested.

The challenges/questions new MMOs face

- Growing community not willing to play any "hardcore" involved.
- Having a fair balance in leveling vs max level
- Being difficult, yet have some ease so people can (A) play alone/small group when they want and (B) large group when they want
- The "gear" has to be a chase, not easy, but not overly difficult with a factor of time
- AA or not to AA? As to help influence alts and playing at max level outside gear collecting
- Which model? F2P or P2P? And if F2P which model and how much can F2P actually do?

You know, as much as I remember the original fondly, and would love to get to play an updated version of the same game, I wonder if I'd actually have time to do it now.

Well, rather than having the time, it's a matter of me being willing to put in the time. Nothing more irking for group members than having someone join the group, then have to leave an hour later, causing them to have to fill the void all over again.

Back in the heyday, me and my usual group would be online by 4pm, and play till midnight every weeknight. And, generally on weekends, we'd spend up to 18 hours a day playing.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't do that again. So, I'm probably part of the problem with new mmo's being to casual :\

Well, regardless, I'm sure I'll give this one a shot when it's released. I'm just curious how many months/years it will be released after the official announcement. Nothing quite like getting hyped for an announcement, only to find out the release date is "sometime in 2015" :D

It isn't going to be browser based that is for sure. It will be F2P as SOE is pretty much committed to that path now and their F2P model is decent. They want to this game to be huge and from a sneak peak an MMO site got back at E3 of the game, it blew their minds (grain of salt MMO site mind blown shown new MMO lol).

I'm eagerly awaiting more info. I love love love EQ and love the world/lore so I can not wait to see what they are doing.
