Ever notice that people who don't vote because "they're both bad..."

...can't actually explain a single damn major policy of either candidate to you? C'mon people, fess up: These are two extremely different candidates who have VERY different plans for the country. If you didn't bother to formulate an opinion and vote, it's because you're too damn stupid/lazy/self-absorbed.

it seems to boil down to laziness / apathy even when you explain that there are things on the ballot other than the POTUS.

Are cowards who are afraid to make a choice. There are other candidates out there. Life is about making decisions, right and wrong.

You realize the government hasn't fundamentally changed since World War II, right?

Yes, but there has only been one recent election where a 3rd party was even a contender. Voting for another candidate is pointless unless they have any sort of shot.

Voting itself is an act of cowardice. It is putting power in the hands of people who are willing to get their hands much dirtier than your own.

Not supporting people who are willing to throw innocent people in prison does help me sleep at night.

Yep. At the very least get out to vote against the assholes who want to raise your property tax to preserve 'open space'.

Reasons I'm not voting for Obama:
He would require financial institutions participating in bailout to put a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures for homeowners "acting in good faith."
He would let federal government lend to state and municipal governments to help counter the budget crunch faced by states due to the mortgage crisis.
He would create an oversight commission that would advise the president, Congress and regulators on the health of and risks facing financial markets.
He would give Federal Reserve supervisory power over any bank that borrows from it.
He would establish a standardized estimate of the total annualized cost of a mortgage loan to make it easier for borrowers to compare different loans.
He would raise minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011 and tie future rises to inflation.
He would advocate for stronger unionization.
He would require employers that don't offer retirement plans to set up IRA-type accounts.
He would require companies to automatically enroll their employees in 401(k)s or IRAs.
He would provide a federally funded match on retirement savings for families earning below $75,000.
He would keep ethanol tariff to protect domestic industry.
He would tax oil profits and use the money to help fund $1,000 rebate checks for consumers hit by high energy costs.
He would authorize bankruptcy judges to reduce mortgage principal.
He would freeze top estate tax rate at 45%.
He would make health care coverage mandatory for children.
He would require employers to either offer a plan, help pay for employee costs or pay into a national health care network.
He opposes individual investment accounts. (Social Security)
He would not permanently repeal the AMT.

Reason's I'm not voting for McCain:
He would reduce capital gains tax to 7.5% from 15% for two years.
He would buy bad mortgages and renegotiate loan terms based on current value of home.
He would create a Justice Department task force that punishes individuals or firms that defrauded innocent homeowners or forged loan application documents.
He would spur economy and job growth by cutting corporate tax rate and temporarily lowering current rates on dividends and capital gains.
He would require companies to automatically enroll their employees in retirement plans they offer.
He would award $300 million prize to the company that can produce a plug-in hybrid battery technology at 30% of current costs, allowing commercial development of plug-in hybrid cars.
He would eliminate a current tax break for oil companies, but lower corporate taxes across the board.
He would preserve the 15% tax rate on carried interest - the cut that private equity and hedge fund managers take when the funds they manage make a profit.
He would reduce corporate tax rate to 25% from 35%.
He would issue tax credits to allow individuals to purchase personal, portable health insurance that can move with them from job to job.
He would not threaten to impose tariffs on Chinese imports here if China does not allow the value of its currency, the yuan, to rise against the dollar.

So, you don't do anything instead? Do you protest, write/talk to your congressman, do anything?

I refuse to grovel or lick the boots of any politician. That's what they want you to do, beg them for a tax cut or some government program. They will surely cut you a deal here and there as they collect their fat six figure salaries and funnel billions of stolen tax loot into the military industrial complex, big corporations and banks.

Trying to change things through the political process is implying you are at the mercy of these jackbooted thugs in suits, and is also extremely time consuming and costly. It just ends in more government power.

I do a cost benefit analysis of how/when I will dissent. For instance, I am currently contesting a red light camera ticket, and I have decided to throw all future jury duty notices in the garbage.

...never take a second to consider all the local/statewide issues on their ballot which have more direct impact on their lives. There's a whole lot more to election day than just voting for prez.

 So, you do nothing and cry about the gov't sticking a pole up your arse. You're the worse kind of coward in this country. Too lazy to fight for what they believe in. Sad.

This, and I barely knew anything about any of my local candidates. It was embarrassing.

So you are implying that I am a coward because I'm not willing to do something that will give the thugs an excuse to throw me in prison? Gotcha. All I have to say is: you first. Maybe you can join the Browns.

I don't care if you write in Mickey Mouse. Refusing to vote is a slap in the face to the ideals of this country and the people who have fought to uphold them.

And plenty of people who vote for either candidate don't know shit about them either. Stupid thread.

No, what I'm saying that you're too lazy and ignorant to realize that we live in a democracy where people have the opportunity to decide on their elected officials, economic policies, social issues, local issues, etc.

And how are you going to go to prison?

Again, you are the worse kind of American. A coward and a cry baby.

I'm not, you don't need a reason to vote, and you don't need a reason to vote for someone in particular. It isn't your duty, it isn't your responsibility. It's simply a right. If you don't have the motivation to vote then you don't need to explain yourself.
