Wind resistance would limit your speed.

People have taken vids of stock tibs getting up near that speed, and non stock tibs hitting it easily with standard gearing.

hmmm we measure how the governor is set in cars a bit differently in Australia, but I suppose it works the same in the end, we do it via RPM not Speed.

Most cars I've owned haven't even been able to get close to were the rev limit is set, most Ford Falcon's it is set at 6120rpm, some Bathurst specials were set at 7200rpm.

However I did own a 1979 Ford XD Fairmont fitted with a heavily worked 302cu Cleveland V8 (not the Windsor), bored and stroked to 333cu, stage 3 cam, 700 holley DP, Eldebrock Performa maniford, genie extractors, 2V heads with 4V valves....it made about 380+ hp.

It could easily hit the rev limiter in top which was set at 6120rpm which indicated a speed of 244.8km/h just by using the 2.92:1 diff and 3spd Auto which gives 40km/h per 1000rpm as a start, I wasn't impressed with being able to hit the rev limiter so I went back to the speed shop and asked them to set it at a more realistic 7200rpm....the car could still hit this with out any problems...I'm not sure if the formula for working out a vehicles top speed is correct but it pretty much indicated that, that particular Ford could do 288km/h...

I don't really know if it was going that fast but fvck it felt like mach 1 at least, the poor Ford was vibrating like fvck but the $3k worth of Koni's and the wide rubber did their job and it was pretty stable....it's the sound that I remember the most...nothing like hearing a Clevo howl at 7000+ rpm...truely spine tingling.

I should add that the Fairmont was fitted with a full roll cage and racing harnesses...I wouldn't have been crazy enougth to try other wise.

We have rpm limiters as well, but if your rpm limiter is the same in every gear you are limited by gearing + revs

Governor kicks in at 112, which matchs the speed rating on the factory tires. No I haven't gone that fast. Short wheel base 4WDs and high speed aren't a good mix.

Maybe, but in the end it's still just a quick Neon and I say that as a former Neon owner. ;)

1995 Neon Sport Coupe 5sp -- Yes. Somewhere between 115 and 120.
2000 VW GTI VR6 5sp -- No. I had it up to almost 130 but I let off.

Both cars totally stock. Both times going across the Bayside Bridge around 3am. There was no one within sight on the bridge with me at the time.

As much as I love Car and Driver, you really cannot compare their 0-60 times other than to their other 0-60's for other cars, because the launches they do would fry a clutch in a day if you kept it up and is not a realistic representation of a true track number with an ametuer driver. Not to mention their whole conditions adjustment equation is buggy.

My Mercury Tracer Wagon speedometer maxes at 85 and I've buried it many a time. Actually 1/2 of my highway driving is pinned to the max. What a piece o' sht that car is.

Don't think my 96 Escort is electronically limited to any speed, and I have pushed it too its limits. ;)

I wish... :brokenheart:

Hell yes! I didn't realize they had one on my car ('96 Grand Am 4Cyl), and it kicked off (around 110mph, I believe) while I was bombing through the HOV lane of the old Lower Deck of I-93. It felt like I blew the tires off the car: I almost hit my face on the steering wheel and started swerving around the lane. How I didn't fly off into the water, I'll never know.

No I haven't, but I've only owned it for 3 weeks. This is what I found on the internet.
Subaru Legacy GT
Top speed : 136 mph(electronically limited)
0-60 mph : 5.7 sec.
Although people on forums are claiming to have gotten it up to 150. Maybe they're talking about the specB version.

I have driven my 1967 Opel Kadett around 90 once in 2006.

I was surprised how can that old car have such ability. One helluva quality vehicle. Will never sell it. Gonna take it in ma grave with me.

Any person who drives a BMW but is too cheap to use premium should be shot.
