Ok, you're in a mall, supermarket, or other type of parkinglot... while you're pulling out you dont pay 100% attention, you're in a rush, whatever... and you damage someone elses car. It's was a stupid mistake, but the owner of the other car didnt see it, so you're in the clear... What do you do?

We're all basically anonymous here, so have you ever been in a similar situation and just took off? Back in the day with my old Crown Vic, I was trying to get out of the mall quickly, and ended up putting a huge dent in the door of the car parked next to me... no one saw and I was really tempted to just jet.... It was the only time I hit another car while driving.

No, but I had that done to me. I wish that the person who did it got raped by a very large inmate.

I have never hit anyone backing out, but I have had someone back out and hit my car.

Luckily my car is the uber plastic (A Saturn), and didn't dent. The paint was scuffed, but I buffed it out, and it looks fine now.

In high school I delivered for a liquor store. I had this big f-350 sized ford van that I was backing out of this guy's driveway when I heard this crunching noise followed by sounds of glass hitting the floor. Turns out, I hit this little volkswagen cabrio behind me peeling part of the front bumper to the side and breaking a headlamp. Being 17 at the time, I got scared sh!tless and just took off.

Yes, because I said what I actually did in my original post! ho ho! I left a note and had my insurance pay for the lady's damage. She was very nice and thanked me profusely for leaving the note.

Not cool man. Realize that if you hit somebody and run, that person is out $500 right there. If however you report that you do not have to pay anything out of pocket. Your insurance may go up, but it will go up anyways if you have to report damages to your own car.

Yeah I lived the next few weeks in fear that I would get fired or cops would somehow find out. I agree with you....I'd be more responsible nowadays.

I ran over a couple people a while back and kept going, wondering if they'll get up and chase me.

...then I woke up ;)

I've leave a note in the gas filler door. This happened to a friend of mine once, and it seemed like a good idea (especially on a windy day when a wiper-placed note would be toast). I'd be so mad if someone ever hit my car and left that I couldn't bear to do it to someone else.

Similar...

I went into wal-mart, right?

Yeah so I figured when I was done with my little walmart adventure, I could return to a car that was not damaged, ran fine, and could drive home without problem...

No, I can't...

So I start walking outside and this little girl runs up to me and says "Do you drive a maroon car?" And I go, "Yeah, why?" "Someone just hit it!!" and she runs off... So I'm thinking that she's just a little tot and starts saying stuff...

Then I walk up to my car, which the rear quarter panel is shoved in the wrong direction and covers the entire length of which... I do believe I have pictures somewhere on CD, but I'm in class... so no go on the pics.

Luckily, the old lady who hit me was driving a van and it did no damage at all to her car, and I did receive her insurance information...cost $3500 to fix the rear quarter panel and re-paint it. Pfft!

Well, actually in your post you NEVER state that you left the note...in fact it leaves the impression that you left...

It was really icy and I smacked into a co-workers car while trying to park outside my work. He came out, just getting off his shift, to the sight of my manager and I inspecting the damage done. Bastard got $1500 for body damage on a Tercel.

I also hit someone, due to ice again, who was parked in my spot. I didn't tell them because its their damn fault for taking my spot.

I hit a car in my local elementary school parking lot a few months ago when I was there to teach some little kids, small scratch on their car, no damage to mine. You would have to see this parking lot, the spaces are about 2/3 the size of normal spaces. I'm not even sure if it's legal to have them that small, but they do, and I hit someone's car. I went inside and got a hold of the owner..... some old woman who yelled at me because it only had like 15,000 miles. Well I only put a small scratch on it, so I think the engine is ok.

Total cost of fixing her car: $76

I bet she felt dumb

no, i would never do such a retarded thing. my brother used to drive a porsche boxster ~3 years ago, and it was hit when he was at a party. granted, it was a public parking lot and things happen. but its just jacked up for them to run off just because they can get away with it. it was a nice car too, and it wasnt a lot of damage, but it was still damage.

I did once, scratched my bumper but didn't do anything to the other car. It was a piece of sh!t anyway, even if I had done something to it, no one probably would have noticed.

When I was 17, me and a friend were going to the beer store and as I was parking I rolled my car into the back of another car. Both cars had big metal bumpers, so no damage was done but we parked somewhere else just the same.

In the cases when I have hit another parked car, I check to see if there is damage. If there is no visible damage, or a mark (not a dent, but a scuff) smaller than a dime, I just leave.

So far, I've never hit anyone bad enough to warrant informing them.
